I attempted to use my flight credits which resulted from Covid restrictions.
When I called to find out why I could not book with them i was told that they had been, I think the operator said,
"degraded" as I hadn't used them.
On my account there was no indication of them expiring.
According to the entry at the end of the your bookings page, the expiry date is 31 December 2023
Maybe it is necessary to contact Qantas to ensure that you have not had this apply to you.

What's 'archived' ? Is this another mechanism or hurdle to keep people's money without providing a service?
Well I had read that some bookings/credits had been archived - as in not expired, but not directly accessible (probably to do with ever extending of flight credits causing problems with Amadeus' normal lifetime of active PNRs as a guess). but my understanding is they could be retrieved and used and thus were not really expired (but yes, and bad process). hence the question.

If the credit(s) were expired, that's a different issue and I would find that very surprising as every one I had had were extended - both old style ones, and travel passes.. so need a bit more info here.

Did they say "Archived"?

Were you able to use or not?
I rang the platinum number but I am sure the accent was not Hobart or NZ.
No I was unable to use it, I waited a polite time and then she said that as I was unable to use it the only way was to apply for a refund.
She said that this would take about 8 weeks normally but she would escalate it and this meant about 12-14 working days.
I made my booking with fresh funds which many would not be able to at short notice.

OK so it seems this is a good result - a refund is far better for you (even with the time it takes) than a flight credit.. so I would say good outcome.

Seems to me it wasn't expired if the agent was willing to process a refund on it so seems something else was going on to me.

either way - good outcome in my book.

Had one of these old unredeemable online flight credits as well. With expiry Dec 2023.

However, the agent I got when I called gladly transferred the credit to a new PNR and even made the booking for me without the operator assistance fee.

Interestingly enough, the flight credit still shows in the MMB page.

This is what I've had. Cape Town was able to fish it back to daylight to a usable state, now visible in MMB with expiry in 2023.
