Just a quick heads up on what I've noticed.

Booked a spa suite @ H-CNS and OLCI offered the worst of the rooms available. ALL the spa suites were available at the time and I was offered the worst via OLCI. Perhaps that may have changed, but if someone got in first, I'd guess I'd be left out in the cold. I think Hilton should offer their best for OLCI rather than hoping the punters won't notice.

Just an observation.

Did you book exec or the one on level 8 ( just remembered you can get the exec for $240). I also noticed the water side was a NOR1 upgrade option which may stop it coming up in OLCI.

Booked a spa suite. To the best of my knowledge, there are four of them (two rooms at the end of the hotel nearest the marina, 2 on 8th floor and 2 on 9th floor). All were available for OLCI, but the one selected for me was the 8th floor nearest the Harbour Lights building. The best (IMHO) is 9th floor facing the inlet which I did select, but to do that, one has to go into the interactive map, change the floor and then select the desired room. The inexperienced may just take the one offered. It's not a biggie, but just something of which to be aware.

Agree swan. I believe that the OLCI function does this on purpose. I've had instances where I didn't get my HH upgrade due to the staff saying I have already checked in etc.

I never use it now and due to status it's unlikely that I or you would be bumped out of the hotel if oversold even if we did book using the cheapest rate :P

Never OLCI unless you are satisfied with the pre-allocated room. At HSW and HSYD, sometimes the pre-allocated (upgraded) room can change as the day progresses, either to same upgraded room on higher floors or even better upgrades. :p

I always use OLCI at Sydney now and have had 100% success rate so far this year with relaxation room and above. Depending on who is doing the room allocations, upgrades have been given after using OLCI. You will get the odd time when no upgrade is given and you have to ask at checkin for an upgrade but as long as you arrive before they allocate them in the system I find my chances are better. I do stay on nights when capacity is low and being local most times will only book the day before.

You have to remember there are only so many rooms available that they are allowed to allocate to upgrades.
