With new terminals opening in 6-9 months I'm expecting two new DJ lounges.
Has anyone heard anything with regards to size & style at each of theses ports?
I.e will CBR be a 'regional' or 'core' model?
I'm also guessing PER would be larger than MEL/BNE/OOL?

PER recently expanded their Lounge at T3 so my gut feeling is that their new terminal at the International precinct was far enough away to justify that upgrade. Last time I checked the planned completion for their new pier (which is the one I'm presuming you're referring to) is mid-2014.

However the big question is whether Virgin will build their equivalent of the CL at the current terminal...

Yes that was the one. So what domestic terminal is opening in December?

Ah the new terminal opening soon is the regional terminal that I believe most of the other airlines currently in T3 will move to.

I doubt CBR will be a regional lounge if it wants to attract government travel away from QF.

I should imagine that Virgin Aust would want to build 'the fulmonty' lounge in Canberra. While it's not a large airport per se, it does a lot of movements at peak parliamentary periods and can get flat-chat for those weeks. Qantas -- favoured by MPs, public officials and business lobbyists -- has a range of lounges, including a large Chairman's Louge, so I would see no reason Virgin would want to go too cheap by comparison.

I have been to CBR lounge once and it looked pretty good.

Not the size of the QF lounges but IMO none of the VA lounges are the same size or bigger than the QF lounges.

The CBR lounge position is good, but it is far too small at peak hours, often standing room only. Not competitive with either the QF QP or J lounge.

The DJ CBR lounge needs a refresh - which of course it will get shortly. Some of the seating cubes are faulty - so you sit and hit something hard. The bucket seats also seem to have accumulated a decent supply of grot down between the arms and the seat squab - best don't look if you're in the lounge.

The current CBR lounge is a moot point - isnt the building it is in going to be demolished in the not too distant future anyway?

Yes, I think you're right - the current DJ gate facilities are very cramped particularly near the lounge (though they still managed priority boarding) and they only have a couple of air bridges. Roll-on the new building!

New terminal in CBR will equal new lounge... I actually like the current little lounge - it has great up close n personal views of the gates, and the staff are really helpful and friendly. Often when it's quiet they will come to you and offer drinks etc.

The VA Canberra lounge is a joke when compared to the Qantas Club, and of course the Qantas J lounge....

One shower, with pretty poor pressure and standing next to a toilet as it's in the disabled toilet
Food - Same old stuff
Feeling a bit old when compared to MEL

The Qantas Club lounge in CBR is miles ahead of the Virgin lounge and I started another thread on here somewhere... Yes there will be a new lounge in the new part of the terminal and they definitely need it ASAP

I'd rather sit on a 737-400 and have the Qantas lounge than a 737-800 with Virgin and their lounge...

That's because the Qantas lounges are in the first half of the new terminal - the Virgin lounge is in the remaining part of the old terminal until the rest of the new terminal is built.

Should be interesting to see what is built, QF has provided a pretty amazing lounge complex in their half.

Agreed, and the QF lounge complex is very well done!

Love the showers as well, which is important to me, as it saves me having to shower when I get home

As for CBR it has to be the same as the MEL/SYD lounges, a regional lounge wouldn't work for the market they are trying to attract.

Yes, definitely won't be regional. Given the demographic i'd reckon there's a very good chance a premium lounge (Plat/ Business/ "The Club") etc will feature there if they're going to build them anywhere.
