Ever since I've started reading this forum people at work think I'm mad.
Especially when I pointed this out to them the other day (I'm sure you experts are well aware of these things).

I've flown to Perth a few times lately (sitting in the PER QC right now).

Anyway I said to one guy I was traveling with, no I'm not taking the direct flight. He looked at me strangely then I explained the situation.

CAN-PER is 40 SC and 1921 FF points for Full economy
CAN-SYD-PER is 60 SC and 3041 FF points
CAN-ADL-PER is 70 SC and 2318 FF points

So I'm thinking in my situation where i need more SC's that the last option is the best for me, however its easiest to fly via MEL or SYD. They all cost around the same.

Some of my work colleagues see the light the others think i'm insane :-)

Although I'm a recreational traveller only.. AND with the *A rather than oneworld.. (don' shoot!).. I know the feeling..

My last trip to the USA went SYD-AKL-HKG-MNL-ICN-SFO-YVR-DEN-CEZ..

Lotsa "points" there! Especially as most was in C..

(My buddies flew SYD-LAX-ABQvv - in Y for not much less $$.....)

Came home ABQ-PHX-LAX-NAN-AKL-SYD.. pretty pedestrian really...;)

The REALLY cool part is that ONE of my sporting compatriots.. "gets it"..

...and travels with me..... and while I like my time alone, on trips like that (30K miles) it IS nice to have a companion...

No wonder they think you're mad - flying CAN (Guangzhou, China) - PER and other Australian destinations for such measly SCs :p (I'm very sorry - couldn't resist)

I missed that!!!!!:mrgreen::shock::mrgreen: Very good!

I do the same when someone talks about flying, say, LAX - AUK... when they mean AKL of course!

(Go on... look it up... you know you want to!!;))

I was sitting here wondering where CAN was, thinking it was some small regional airport i had not heard of :) hehehe some may agree on my thoughts just the same.

My mind works in various ways, and saw "CAN" as Canberra. Similarly, other cities in different posts all work out ok in my head. I think it's something to do with spending too much time here and knowing various airport codes and airline routes!

PS, to the OP - As long as your company policy allows you to do this and it doesn't interfere with your work or family life -- do it! You should find the rewards are actually quite nice.

aaah yes typo there... at least i had CBR in the heading ;-)

There are prob heaps of routings like this from Canberra. We have alot of direct flights to SYD and MEL... but not so many to everywhere else.

Given there is only one CBR-PER flight a day, one can often maveuvre around a policy. PER-CBR used to be a red-eye, which was straightforward to avoid.

Quite correct; especially when you compare the fares: (Flexi/Full)
  • $818 / $967: 40SC's - CBR-PER
  • $850 / $999: 60SC's - CBR-SYD-PER
  • $1107/$1470: 70SC's - CBR-ADL-PER
  • $1060/$1295: 60SC's - CBR-MEL-PER

Does seem QF would like you to route through SYD.......
Are the CBR-MEL flights that much more popular?

But I wander
