It would have been claimable on my ANZ, Bank West or Westpac cards but of course travel insurance also has its own excesses. Not worth claiming.

Sorry... hate bumping an old thread but it saves asking a new question.

Car hire co's seem to now charge a seperate "windscreen and tyre" coverage option, and if you bust a tyre or smash the winscreen, they charge you actual costs instead of the excess.

My Westpac Black card covers me for $5500 "rental vehicle excess", but would that also extend to a tyre or windscreen replacement? (given it's not so much an excess and more an actual charge)?

I would contact Westpac (or their underwriters) for a specific answer.

you need to read the PDS very carefully, but I think it doesnt. (but i dont care as I never hire car in australia)

and if you are referring to car hire in USA, its completely different and your credit card insurance provides $0 cover, because there is no excess there.

it took me quite a while to get my head around all this rental car insurance stuff, best bet is do indepth reading of all the info on this website https://www.rentalcover.com/
