Change credit card after payment

Hi,
I managed to book a reward RTW flight with Qantas the other day for my parents. I paid using my credit card, and the tickets were issued - all good.
After the fact, we realized that if we had paid using my parents' credit card, they would get travel insurance as part of their credit card (NAB Platinum or Signature). Its the same card as I used to pay, but since i'm not one of the travellers, I don't think the insurance would cover them.

Is there any options anyone can think of that would somehow refund the money to my credit card, and pay with theirs, without sending the tickets back to the general pool , or face any cancellation fines from QF ? The other option is for them to book a couple of hotels which they will need along the journey, but they are not pre-paid, i.e. you pay at checking. The insurance kicks in once you've spent >$500. Booking two of the airport hotels (Sydney and Incheon) would take them over the $500, but from what I can see on the hotel website, the card is actually charged at checkin, rather than booking.

If anyone has any ideas, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
PP

I would not try to refund the RTW flights, almost certain chance of losing the seats for good. Just get a stand alone policy.

Both the cards I have require the main flights to be changed to the card (or FF points), I don't know anything about your hotel criteria.

I actually rang them yesterday, and asked if we can reticket due to a change in dates. She said she would cancel the original flights, and refund, and I'd have to book again. I told her one of the flights isn't available anymore (DFW-SYD). She put me on hold for a minute, and asked to try again. Voila. It was available again. I made a second booking, using the correct card this time, while she cancelled the first. Very good and helpful service from QF for a change.

wow that is good ! Did you have to forfeit 6000 points per passenger for the cancellation ?

Nope. No penalty. It was a day since I made the original booking though. Our within 48 hours. All points are back in my account.

I'm happy that worked out for you, but it was still a risky move (though sounds like it was the QF flights being an issue, which is far less risky).

Personally I wouldn't have done it! Just read the many threads here of people doing similar and it ended in tears.
