Has anybody noticed any suttle changes at Sydney IC lately ??

Apparently, they have altered their arrangement with Foxtel ...

There is no longer an MTV music chanel on the room TVs ...

and the total number of chanels available has decreased.

There is still an 'MTV' chanel, but it is an Arabic cutural chanel only - no latest music video clips !!

and the breakfast in the Club Lounge is now minus a few items that were previously 'standard' up there ...

anything else people have noticed ??

Not that I have stayed there a lot but I have given up on that hotel due their ever increasing stinginess.

Apparently, in response to lots of silly complaints to management, about the myths relating to 'how' to access the Club Lounge ...

On 14th. Feb. 'ordinary mortals' can access the Sydney IC Club Lounge WITHOUT having to be a hotel guest, and enjoy a glass of 'champagne' each, and a plate to share of chocolate-dipped strawberries ... for $65. per couple. ( from 8pm only )

( The current FB advert. says "two glasses" but I called them, and they say its an error )

The private club has always been open to the public at 8Pm

Oh, well when I spoke to the duty Club manager, she said it's never been done before ...

They wanted to offer people the opportunity to visit the Club Lounge - without the expense of booking a Club-access room ...

So, you're saying, on any given day - after 8pm - any non Club-access hotel guest or non guest, can walk up to the sliding glass door, and buzz to be let in, and then pay a fee etc. ???

Yes, although when I invited my workmates in after a Christmas party a few years back there was no charge, and drinks were on a consumption basis, operated until 1AM from memory and it was a decent way to finish the night, especially as the drinks bill seemed to go AWOL.

Thanks for that Markis ...

I'm sure a number of readers would not have been aware that it 'can' be done ...

You could also invite non-hotel guests to the lounge, for evening drinks and canapés for a fee. I've done it. It was subject to availability on the day - if they thought the lounge was not going to be overcrowded.

I don't stay there but they had Alaskan King crab in their smorgasbord so that keeps me interested.

Looking at a variety of dates for 2014 it would appear that club room inventory has now been excluded from AMB free weekend certificate redemption?

Dear

Thank you for your email. Our program with the Club rooms hasnow been changed. In order to receive Club Lounge access, you are required tobook any room category and include the Club package for an additional $165 pernight.

Therefore you are more than welcome to book any room on yourPriority Privilege certificate and the Club package will be an additional option to add onto yourreservation.

Pleasedo not hesitate to contact me, if you require further assistance

Well that sucks. It's really smart from their perspective though. No more half priced club access on the 2 for 1.

... you are required to book any room category and include the Club package for an additional $165 per night

Looking at some dates (18th-20th May).

1 KING STANDARD CITY SIDE ROOM best flexible: $330.00/night
1 KING STANDARD CITY SIDE ROOM with CLUB access: $495.00/night ($165.00 more)

1 KING STANDARD CITY SIDE ROOM PP BOGO
: $165.00/night

So adding $165.00 for Club access to the PP rate it would be $330.00/night.

The Club is nice, but $165.00 nice? I'm not so sure...

I note that Club Rooms are now excluded from the Ambassador Free Weekend Night BOGO also.

While PP BOGOs state they are for Best Flexible Rates, the Ambassador Free Weekend Night BOGOs state they only not applicable for suites...

The Club Rooms are still available for the IC Melbourne on the Ambassador Free weekend night. What gives with the Sydney property??

Different owner, and one that has been trying to weasel out of benefits for a long time. Maybe the second IC will give it a good kick in the ...

Anyone hazzard a guess, about how RAs will be treated under this 'new' approach ??

I'll answer my own question ...

Sent an email off to Sydney IC ...

They responded back, saying there will be no changes to the current RA privileges.

That is, book a 'standard' city view room, and get upgraded to a Club Access room - with no additional charge.
