I hope someone here can help me.

I'm looking at booking a JASA or FASA ticket. Now I can see some dates JASA tickets are "cheaper" than others for the same class of bookings.

Will it be possible to change dates for a JASA award ticket if say the original booking was done at 44000 points to a date that's charging 85000 for the same ticket type/booking?

Are the tickets treated equally, or is there a "points" value attached to the ticket bookings that is used to assess the "charge" for changing bookings?

In my experience, it depends what fare bucket it books into.

If it books into U (typical for the cheap JASA tickets) then you can must change via the phone and you can only change if there is U availability on your new flight (ie: the new flight also has cheap JASA).

If it doesn't have U availability and you still want to change, a $ value is assigned to your points and you can pay the difference. The assigned value seems to be about 30% of the corresponding D class fare.

IME when you phone to change an ASA (I have only used JASA's though) they need to match the number of points to your current booking.

I only choose flights SYD-PER where the points required are 42K each way so when I need to change which is often I go online find the new flight for the same points then phone up and have the booking changed for no fee.

I was wondering how it worked, so if I picked up a "cheap" JASA, I'm limited to the equivalent pointed JASA's if I wanted to change dates.

Thanks for the details! :)

Dont even think about changing online!
Actually this situation seems to have been partially resolved, at least for International sectors.

When you change a U class, it gives your ticket a dollar value, if there is U class availability you will see the similar dollar amount. I have changed with no additional collection and no removal of ASA conditions. I even upgraded to P class online for a couple of hundred bucks cash. Seems well worth it to me.

If all else fails, phone and ask nicely for a U seat to be availed. If you are very nice about it, you might get lucky. If it is heavily booked in J, forget about it.

If there is a difference in points levels (double as stated), it is unlikely to be a U class...

I couldn't replicate this.

I just checked a CBR-SYD-WLG JASA and tried to change to a new flight that has U availability.

This is what I got:
6hzx0

Maybe it only applies to certain routes, and/or direct flights only. It'd be awesome if it was rolled out everywhere.

Love the P class idea though :)

You have a domestic sector in there - screws up the whole process it seems. I am talking direct International IME.

Especially sweet considering it's on the A380 (providing they get back in the air by April...:p

Yeah, must be that.

I've never done a JASA direct from an international port. It's roughly the same points cost to include CBR-SYD or CBR-MEL :).

That sounds awesome, I hope it ends up being an A380.

I'm yet to experience F on the A380, but want to try it out soon.

Thanks for the tip, just upgraded my LAX-SYD JASA to P class for a little over $AU550.

The big question is, did you earn First Class points & status credits on the flight?

I just went to investigate the possibility of changing a YASA I have booked for next week. The QF site would not even give me the option to entertain a change. Either i'm looking in the wrong place, or they don't supply me with the option (It's booked into O class, with a DOM and INT on the same PNR and ticket).

IF it is doable (is that a word) then I believe you will need to ring and start the conversation with 'I believe this cannot be done online' and with luck you will not get charged the 2500 points fee.

More a cancellation than a change (but not worthy of its own thread), is anyone able explain the practical implications of this clause to me:-

"If a refund is requested prior to travel commencing, and the money paid to obtain the Any Seat Award is less than the cancellation fee (or refund fee) specified in the Fare Conditions, and the original Any Seat Award booking was not made on jetstar.com, then the refund of the Any Seat Award will be made by re-crediting only the Refundable Proportion of Points redeemed to the Member's account and refunding only the Refundable Proportion of the money paid to the Member's Accepted Payment Card."

I wish to cancel an ASA (PE Z Class) which has a cancellation fee of $300US (according to the fare rules), I paid $150US towards the ticket - so can I just pay the shortfall as I cancel (and be refunded my points in full) or will they deduct $150 worth of points from me, meaning I will be out of pocket a fare number of points?

Haven't flown yet, but fare conditions changed to 'First' - flexible and first SC earn. If they don't award First SCs, they will be in breach of their own conditions.

If it's soon, shame it will be on an old 747 F class :(

Well to answer my own question, after two days of trying to get an answer from Qantas, they will only refund 41,040 points - pretty disappointed in the whole thing to be honest.

Technically, as per the fare rules, you should be able to pay a (full) $300 cancellation fee, get a credit of $150 back to your card and all of your points back. By trying to get them to deduct one from the other and do fancy things, you may cause yourself an issue (i.e. QF systems will get confused).

I seem to be having good luck getting flexible fare conditions with the JASAs I have been booking, although some are Jsaver with $60 change fee/$300 cancel... although I asked nicely for the change fee to be waived - they kindly waived (actually the U class they availed for me on the new flight very nicely also). Sometimes attitude is everything... :p

Maybe I've moved up on the WP internal tiers... who knows. A spot of F travel will do that.
