Nothing is reasonable cost around the airport! Here is what Skyscanner comes up with.

sorry, it's sydney i believe held at the qantas training base

Try this - Holiday Inn $158

Now that may not seem cheap but try this:

1. Join Mr. Rebates - Cash Back Rebate Shopping at over 2000 Stores
2. Book using their MRrebates.com link for 15% cash back : Store Search - Mr. Rebates

That should result in $23.70 back reducing the room down to $134.30 (there is also a USD$5 sign up bonus)

Sign up to priority club and register the codes using the bonus codes in the PC bonus point thread, that should result in a stay that gives close to 10000 or 15000 PC points, allowing you both a night at the sugar shaker for free (needs 15000 points), or Cairns once you get more points.

So for $134.30 you get a night in Sydney opposite the QF admin area, and close to a free night at a local HI!

hey thanks for that :)

No problems, a couple of caveats - the cash back takes 3 months, and the rate quoted is either the AAA rate or the entertainment card rate, technically the entertainment card rate does not pay points, the AAA one does so book that, you just need to be a member of the RACQ or NRMA etc etc in case they ask for the card, which is unlikely.

Formule 1 is fine is it's only for sleeping that he wants.
People will turn their nose up at it, but it is clean and does the job for sleeping. And it's closer to your budget.

For $5 extra I would go the HI which is opposite the venue of the course, not to mention not looking like this:

The HI also has a bar which might be necessary after a long day......
