firstly let me say "yay" the reward booking portal from within velocity is working again!.. secondly looking at the USA in March next year, and for comparisons sake tried Sydney to Paris (as opposed to LAX) and it was less reward points (ie. the lowest reward points to the USA always had high taxes and surcharges than Europe), thats crazy.... just saying...
 
It's probably due to availability and how many have been redeemed. Europe normally is more expensive.
