just wondering if anyone can help me here.
We arrive at 9.20pm from HNL-AKL ON Hawaiian and then AKL-SYD on QF the next day at 1.35pm. My friend is going through nz immigration to stay at my place for a few hours then go back for the AKL-SYD flight. It’s all on the one ticket.
So can the luggage be checked in all the way through to SYD at HNL?
thanks for any advice on this.

I know you're probably not going to like this answer, but from my experience "maybe".
usually if it's a small stop over then 100% yes with a single ticket.
With a long layover "maybe", even if it's on the same ticket. The best bet to know for sure is to ask at check in. It really depends on the check in person and how helpful they are sometimes.

Hi just got back to akl with my friend. At the check In kiosk it didn’t give us the option to check bags right through to SYD from HNL, so we collected my friends bag at akl and will recheck it tommorrow. There was a long queue at the check in counter that we didn’t feel like lining up for. The ticket was booked on AA, and was on Hawaiian HNL-AKL, then AKL-SYD on QF on one booking but two references, so I doubt the Hawaiaan check in agent could have checked the bags through!!

HA does interline with QF and bags can be checked through if on the same booking, but not overnight. The fact it was booked with AA is irrelevant.
