Hi - we've redeemed QFF points for AA seats from LA to NYC. This might be a dumb question, but how do I do seat allocation and check in once I arrive in LA? We are flying V Australia to LA (much cheaper!!!) so can't book all the way through. And do I pay the luggage fee when I check in at LAX?

If you ask QF for your PNR on AA you can go to AA and do seat allocation online (if you want to save your personal details for another trip you can join AAdvantage for free). At LAX you will have to claim luggage and pass through customs/immigation - could be a breeze or a nightmare, depending how many other people arrive with you. You will have to go to Terminal 4 to ckeck-in for your AA flight. If you have a long wait you can pay $US50 to get an Admiral's Club day pass and enjoy drinks and a shower (and can be used similarly on arrival in NY).

I rang Qantas to get my PNR when I booked my flight from SYD to NY last month (thanks to the advice of the forum) and the Customer Rep did the seat allocation for me for the AA flight over the phone.
