Check-My-Trip. Interesting seating...

Recently checked an upcoming SYD-SIN, BKK-SYD QF/BA using Check My Trip (and subsequently found out my flights changed by 6 hours... but that's another story).

Anyway I'm travelling with someone and we're both on seperate award tickets (i haven't linked them yet) both booked at the same time. I have no seat allocation, however he has been allocated Row 34 on QF31 SYD-SIN and Row 33 on BA9 BKK-SYD. Both of these are the bulkhead rows at the front of economy. We're both bronze.

Any idea why he would have been issued with the best seats in economy (remember no status or seating request) and I haven't been given anything?

If not, maybe the agent issuing the ticket was able to get seats assigned.

This can gernally be done for anyone as long as no more than 20% of the WHY seats have been pre-allocated.

Serfty, is there anyway you can confirm or prove this pre-allocated rule? A few people on this board have mentioned this before.

I remember a few years ago when travelling overseas for work some of the bookings were made 2-3 days before travel and I was always issued with an allocated seat in WHY (managed to score a very good forward aisle seat everytime) before check-in.

Based on my experiences and what you are implying then most of the international flights I have been on would not have had more than 20% pre-allocated seats. I find that hard to believe as most of these flights were full, SYD-SIN-SYD, SYD-BKK-SYD.

I can't really cofirm this, can only repeat from my (and other) experiences.

However, in your case, I believe that as a PS you are not subject to the 20% rule, same for QP NB, SG, WP & CL.
