I have an upcoming trip which is booked via QFF for the following legs - MEL-SCL-GRU all on LATAM. I need to get to VIX and attempted to book a paid flight from GRU-VIX via the Brazil LATAM website (as the flight cost was cheaper on the Brazil site compared to AU). I got all the way to the end but it wouldn't let me proceed without a CPF number. I am now going to book it via a OTA as cheaper than LATAM Au but it had me thinking on how does the baggage allocation work when combining a reward flight with a paid flight?
I assume that I should be able to have my luggage checked through all the way from MEL to VIX due to using the one carrier. If so, will they be using my baggage allowance for the reward flight or will the agent in Melbourne request me to pay for the luggage at check in? I am likely to buy from the OTA and then add the luggage directly from LATAM later but just curious on how it would work if there was no luggage allowance on the paid fare component. Has anyone had any experience with this?
