We will be flying from Los Angeles to Auckland and transiting Brisbane for 10 hours. (all VA flights)

Will we be able to check our bags through to Auckland?

We would like to leave the airport during the transit is this permitted? (NZ passports)

We are flying premium economy if that makes any difference.

Thanks for any help

If you plan to leave the airport you would need to clear customs & if you intend to clear customs you must have your checked bsggage with you.

Your bags would have to be tagged to "BNE" if they are to be offloaded there. If the bags were tagged through to AKL the bags would remain airside in transit at BNE as airline would assume the pax would be too.

Once you clear customs with your luggage you can either hire a locker which are near the carpark outside the international terminal assuming you won't want to be taking the bags with you.

You could ask VA staff at the bag drop counter just outside customs if they're able to accept your bag for the BNE/AKL flight later that day but it's meant to be for pax with VA domestic flight connections.

In LAX make sure to tell the checkin staff that you only want the bag tagged as far as BNE & make sure you carefully look at the tag they put on your case & it says "BNE" not "BNE/AKL".

Ensure you arrive back at BNE Airport 90 minutes prior to departure allowing for trafgic delays etc.
