We are travelling P.E. with V Australia/V America to LAX/SEA,on th 31 July 2011,the web site informs us that online check-in is not available at this stage, that is fine.Looking at the sister website Flyertalk.com/forums re: V Australia, you can check-in over the phone and request a seat? Can anyone enlighten me if this is correct/only available to Gold Members/or is the information incorrect.
Regards
Terry.

Hey thanks for the tip! We logged on as you suggested and nominated our preferred seats - just in time. Most of them already allocated. Why don't they mention this on their website when booking is complete?:)
Cheers
Terry

Hi Terry

Will be interested to see what you think of V Australia PE, as we're flying to LAX with them in mid-November.

When I booked the tickets in March during a sale, the option to select seats wasn't even available on the website at that time - I had to ring the customer service centre and request seats, so I was surprised when I saw notzac's post and went and retrieved the booking - and sure enough, you can now select seats! Our original seat selection shows up, but you can only select/change seats for the international legs, not for the domestic ones operated by VA - that option is greyed out on the screen.

IIRC seat selection isn't available on the cheapest whY seats unless you're VA Gold.

Here we go...

Seat Selection
Seat selection is available for:

  • all fare classes expect V Promo
  • flights operated by V Australia
  • Gold and Silver Velocity Members (regardless of fare class booked)
You can follow this process to select your seat:

  1. Choose 'select' or 'change' to make your seat selection.
  2. If eligible for seat selection, you will be shown a seat map on the following page
  3. Use your mouse to click on an empty seat of your choice
  4. Available seats will be coloured grey and referenced in the key as 'Available Seat'
  5. After you make your selection, your seat will be highlighted green and will be referenced in the key as 'Your Allocated Seat'
  6. Other members in your booking will be shown in white and be referenced in the key as 'Assigned to a person in your group'
  7. Once you have selected your seat, press 'select' and you will be taken back to the payment page where you can view your seat selection
  8. Complete your booking and you will see your seat selection on your confirmation page also
We will always attempt to provide you with your preferred seat selection though due to operational reasons, seat selections are not guaranteed.

Still, Id rather something like this in the booking process for domestic flights....

Is seat selection still available for V Australia (That is, for any flights made through Amadeus, or Virgin Australia International Flights)? I made a booking a while ago and the agent allocated me seats, but I can't seem to see anywhere I can change them online. There isn't even a way to view a long haul booking online.

Any hints? I remember you use to be able to do this.

If you click 'manage' on the Virgin Australia homepage, you are asked to "Please call the Guest Contact Centre to change international long haul bookings." What it doesn't make clear is that if you populate the two fields above ('Reservation Number' and 'Member's Last Name') with your long haul booking details you can view the booking online. From that screen you can view seat selections. You are also told you can edit the selections but for me, in practice, it always fails.

I flew them a couple of years back, was really impressed by their product, service and aircraft.

Obviously depends on your expectations but being in the travel industry I've flown my fair share of J and still found it very comfortable and more than adequate for what doesn't seem like a ridiculously long flight for me.

Hope you enjoy it.

When I go to enter my details, (PNR and Last Name) it just says the booking can't be found. Grr

I flew Y+ to LAX for the first time late last month, figured out the seat selection thing pretty quickly.

Despite the fact that they lost my luggage and took three days to find and return it to me (especially since priority baggage was one of this biggest reasons for me choosing Y+ on this leg), it was a really good product. Comfortable and roomy chair (especially for 6'4" guy), great meal service and a lovely cabin crew who were attentive without being annoying. My only qualm was cleanliness - there was trash in my seat back and lots of dust which sent my sinuses into a tailspin for a few days.

We flew MEL-LAX-MEL late last year on a sale PE fare and everything was brilliant except the check in at LAX where the (contract) ground staff couldn't have been more rude if they tried.

Needless to say a complaint to Virgin did nothing but get an automatic, formulaic emailed response. Not a good way to keep status fliers on side IMHO :(

Anyway I guess the fact is at least $1k pp cheaper than QAN return means you get what you pay for :)
