Hi all,
My girlfriend and I are flying from SFO-SYD on Wednesday night 17th June on what I believe is a Qantas 747-400 (QF 74).

When looking at checkmytrip for seating assignments it shows I have 35A & B. The associated seating map only shows two seats in that row (no C). But from looking at Qantas' seating maps on their site, the only config I can see that has only two seats in row 35 is a 4 class config.

I was under the impression that flights from SFO didn't have premium economy? Did checkmytrip screw up with their map? Will I have to be squeezed between A & C?

Any help/comments would be much appreciated!

Cheers,
P.

p-dub, welcome to AFF.

While they may not be selling Premium Economy on that route, they may still be operating an aircraft that has a PE cabin. So you may well be lucky to have a PE seat, but will still get the standard economy service.

Thanks for the welcome!

Keeping my fingers crossed for that scenario :)

Cheers,
P.

I flew SFO-SYD in March and it was a 4 class ..... even though my ticket still said economy I was sitting in PE and received PE service

Hopefully it still is and you'll get great service :)

SnowYeti do you mind me asking what seat you were in? Was the whole PE cabin given PE service do you know?

I have a similar scenario coming up next month on some MEL-LAX-SYD flights. Mr Timtammi and I are allocated in row 39 both ways and the seat maps certainly indicate that is PE although we only have Y tickets. Looking at EF it appears they are selling PE on our flights, but the seat map shows the second part of the PE cabin as being blocked out so I'm thinking they arent selling that section as PE and putting status pax there instead? (we are both SG) If so I figured we would probably only get Y service..

Interestingly I had been automatically allocated row 39 but Mr Timtammi was back in 50 something even though we booked together and are on the same PNR. We rang and managed to get him moved next to me both ways but the QF call centre person said it was economy seating (but the seat map shows 2-4-2?)

That is very cool news! I won't hold my breath, but will be a nice bonus if that's the case for my flight ;)

P.

Timtammi, I don't remember, I was right up the front under the bulkhead, so hmmm 34K maybe ?

I was on an award flight too ! So I have no idea if it would have come up as PREMIUM ECONOMY on QF, but I doubt it since boarding pass said economy only.

That was the flight I got given an express card, and everyone in the cabin was treated PE service and given express cards.

On my recent SYD-JFK I was seated in 35A and then 36K on return, but closer to the flying date, I was moved and moved back to like 65K ... then I thought after a coughpy flight I went to upgrade to business on return leg :)

Rang QF to try to move fwd without telling them I wanted to be in PE, but they said a big school group came on board ..... which was a tour group in the end, not a school group. A bunch of older people all with name badges doing the visit Australia/USA kinda thing :)

I think what you are seeing is a result of Qantas dropping First class on the SYD - SFO route. This was announced a few weeks ago.

I booked a PE seat, using point, on QF73 for July and my seat is now showing as in row 25.

On Expertflyer the seat map shows:
Business - Rows 1-4 (normally first) and 11-18 (upstairs)
Premium economy - Rows 23-30 (normally business downstairs)

I'd say (hope) they've shuffled business passengers into first seats, PE to business and so on

Thanks all for your insight and help with this! Just checked in and was told we were both upgraded to Business Class, due to a full flight. :D

Not bad for a $650 return ticket from SFO :)

Cheers,
Patrick.

Congratulations P-Dub! Great outcome!

Do you have high status with QF?

Have a great flight :)

Cheers

Not really no, Qantas Club Bronze... just my lucky day I guess :)
QP will do it, even more-so these days. Two weeks ago I sat beside a happy QP NB couple who had been called up in the AKL QP for new BP's in J about 15 minutes before boarding commenced.

The flight to LAX was well oversold in WHY - I was op-upped and given my J BP at check-in.

You guys are getting my hopes up!

I hate the MEL-LAX flight and J would make not just my day, but my year!
Here's hoping with the 2 of us SG that we get upped too. Flight is July 10 so not much longer now.

Cheers

I would not get my hopes up - given the loadings for that flight:

RC F9 A9 J9 C9 D9 I9 W9 T0 B9 H9 K9 M9 L5 V9 S9 NC QC OC XC E0

Should the M/L/V/S classes drop to zero and stay there your op-up chances will increase, K would be even better.

The QF25 flight I was on showed zeroes for most WHY classes for two weeks before the flight. (B & H fluctuated but I believe this was selling J seats for high revenue Economy fares).

Yeah thanks Serfty I just checked EF myself after my last post so I saw this. Hopes going down now..

Cheers
