Rainy day in Melbourne spending time on the lappy today leisurely looking at all things travel. Planning a work trip to the NYC via austin in March next year. Cost of flying PE on QF & VA is more than flying China Airlines in J.

Product looks good, obviously no worthwhile Status credits or points. Usually default to QF where I am now WP. Also looking to try VA (Gold matched there missed out by 1 week to plat). I do think the QF PE product looks better and I have aways chosen it over VA in the past, I guess I will again if it was between the 2.

I always stop in LA because I like to break up the trip, so I would be just as happy to stopover in Taipei and fly direct to USA next day.

So some advice. QF PE or China Air J?

Being Taiwanese I'm naturally biased. China airlines is a taiwanese airline (we Asians like to draw very defined lines) and not Chinese.

CI J Seats are not flat. I tend to slide down while trying to sleep.

Food is average. Service is better than QF (due to the smaller cabin). But not to CX standards.

CI Recently joined skyteam. So you can credit to another FFP.

I've never flies PE on QF but I'd like to think the J on CI is better.

given that you want to stopover and have done L.A. a number of times, personally I would happily fly discount economy just to stopover somewhere new

assuming you havent been to Taipei before (which is a great place, I was there in April), I would take that option in a heartbeat
