Can anyone tell me why it says on the Qantas website that China Eastern is a one world affiliate that I will earn points with, but then when i check in at Sydney (SYD-PVG-TSN), i was informed that they are not a one-world airline, I do not have lounge access in Shanghai, and to top it all off they cannot forward my baggage!!!

Is this simply a fact that Qantas has not updated their frequent flyer website in the last year? or is there some fine print that my eyes failed to gaze upon?

I don't know where on the Qantas site it says they are a one world affiliate. However, outside of one world they do have a commercial arrangement (codshares etc) with China Eastern, which is why you can earn points on their flights.

China eastern are a QFF partner, not a Oneworld affiliate. QF have several of these that are QFF partners but not oneworld members. Alitalia and el al being two examples

In regards to you PVG - TSN sector, I believe there is domestic thru check of bags in China anyway, regardless of airline.

China Eastern (MU) is a member of SkyTeam.

but as other posted above you can earn FF points, not SCs in certain fare classes,
and unfortunately no lounge access unless in J

Not many OW airlines fly to TSN.
Alternative might have been SYD-HKG-PEK (with the last leg on DragonAir), given that Tianjin is close to Beijing (albeit the airport is in the north)

That explains it, FF partner not OW, it is not very clearly stated at the Qantas site though.

We normally fly SYD-HKG-PEK but then its a 2 hour drive back to Tianjin :(. Further to this 60% of the time the HGK-PEK is delayed by 2+ hours.....Chinese planes cant land in the rain! lol

Big thanks for the advice everyone!

No problem. Welcome to AFF.
Agree Beijing airport delays and traffic can be a nightmare

there are not many airlines flying between HKG and TSN full stop, especially when i only fly non-chinese airlines.

best option is to fly KA/CX to beijing, and go from there.
