With QF not looking to restart flights to mainland China, is the only SC earning option now to go via HKG onto CX and TYO onto JL?

Trying to plan some half work half leisure trips to Shanghai later in the year and trying to work out the options.

Unless I’ve missed a pending route cancellation, a search on qantas website shows SYD to PVG in November. QF129

At this point it's schedule to resume on 29 October although that could change because obviously they've just set that based on the northern winter scheduling kicking in.

Regardless QF still partner with China Eastern meaning flights departing Australia can be booked via Qantas with a QF flight number earning QF points/status credits and added perk of QF F lounge for WPs.

MH is also an option although earning rates are often poor when it comes to QF status credits.

Every airline loads their last years' NW schedules and works/edits off that.

Thanks, I thought MU didn't earn status and only points (at least that's what the site and calculator says).

Has to be booked with a QF code

(almost) anything with a QF code earns SCs

Curious why you say "almost", I was under the impression anything with a QF code earns SC (obviously excluding classic awards)?

A few exclusions like government charters etc

and other charter flights (eg Antartica) but anything bookable by the general public on Qantas.com (or via OTAs/TAs) with a QF code ought to be in play.

At the moment yes, but the covid recovery flights met your description but did not earn (and had a disclaimer to that fact)

I think also the APW flights that had a QF3XX number might not have qualified but were bookable on the QF site

Yes, but comment was more about future commercial bookings in response to OPs question.

The fact you can book them on QF doesn't make them eligible, just correcting your earlier statement.

Thanks guys , also just as an aside any ideas why the codeshare MU flights aren't showing up when I search for them?

Do you have a rough date in mind. I don't know why but when I was looking earlier there were only business class seats appearing and on other dates none at all. I suspect the number of QF MU seats are limited and rather heavily booked being one of the few QF options to China.

Probably Aug - Sep range. Im also curious what the QF tax on the pricing is as MU themselves are quite cheap atm through travel agents.
