I'm getting a Syd- Tokyo return fare in J (sloping lay flat seat on the 777?) for about 50,000 Yen ($500) for Feb 2014.
The Y fare was 20,000 yen return.
Is that the normal cost?

Sounds cheap, especially for J - I flew them about 6-8 years ago a few times and they were definitely one of the cheapest around. That was MEL-China. We got there OK, on time, and were fed etc, but they didn't compare to airlines like Qantas, Thai, Singapore, BA etc. My Dad (retired ATC) has always recommended avoiding any airline with "China" in its name... don't know how they are now though.

It looks like that site is Chinese and therefore would be pricing in CNY (chinese yuan), I cant tell for sure because of the mobile number verification code.

Absolutely .. that
¥ is the symbol for Chinese Yuan Renminbi
50000 Yuan is AUD$7750 ... not so cheap after all.

Oh well, however I just checked MEL to SIN early JAN

2300 Yuan one way ($354) economy, not too shabby.

Sorry, abit too trigger happy.
That price was from SIN to MEL. The other way is much dearer!

Best I could see was FEB 2014 MEL - SIN -MEL $808 not so special after all :(

CZ do at times have some ad hoc special fares ex AUS, but tickets are very restrictive & likewise for the service..

The CZ website (and the other Chinese Airlines) will quote prices in AUD, but will process the payment in Yuan.

So the actual price you pay may be quite different to the AUD one they quote as you have to rely on the exchange rate they have used in their quote, and your card company's exchange rate.

It can be an unpleasant surprise.

What we do for clients is sell in AUD based on the BSP exchange rate, then process the card through our merchant facility. That way the price quoted is the price paid.

thanks for explaining that, it just didn't look right from the start.

The 28 Degrees card has good rates and maybe will help keep on costs down..
