CHOICE fare $40 *less* than Happy Hour LITE fare - often seen?

Can't recall seeing that aberration before. Has anyone?

Have seen discount Biz lower than Flex often, but never this.

Booked it, before the computer changed its mind! Still showing same fare.

Better connections MEL-SYD were there, that I'll try and use on the day at check-in via 'Flying ahead'. They were $100+ higher.

Velocity points earn lower on this Choice than the Lite. All rather strange.

The only reason points are less is that the fare is less. For domestic, points are a multiple of the dollar cost. Pay more, get more... and pay less, get less.

I haven't seen Choice priced lower than Lite before, but I have seen other weird things with VA fares.

As @odysseus says, the cheaper Choice fare will earn fewer points because the earn rate is 5 points per dollar. But you do get more status credits with Choice, as SC earn is not based on the fare price.

These are on Rex 737 routes only.

They are price matching all Rex fares, who do not have a lite bucket, so they are matched at a Choice fare level.

These were ADL-MEL-SYD. Rex does not appear to fly ADL-SYD direct, so you might well be correct.

Price matching is not new of course but when does, one wonders why that match was not in the LITE bucket - with NO checked baggage, and no Status segments relevant, and far less status credits etc.

Wish Virgin would match Rex in LOUNGE features! June 2022 and STILL no newspapers in any Virgin Lounge - or on board for Biz pax.

These were ADL-MEL-SYD. Rex does not appear to fly ADL-SYD direct, so you might well be correct.

Luggage is a more significant element of the fare type so is a better match for Rex fare, which also includes snacks/drinks in flight, plus other amenities. If they only price matched lite, it wouldn't significantly attract Rex customers as they would still be getting more included for the same price.

Lite would be more appropriate if they were pricematching Jetstar where all the extras are removed.

Yes they are still matching Rex on connecting 737 flights also.

The VA fares they are matching are bloody good value if you ask me. Thanks Rex.

Yeah this is pretty cough. Qantas have magazines back in their lounges. I quite enjoyed reading Dmarge at the Melbourne Virgin Lounge back in March 2020 and discovering what well-off men spent their money on ($16K clothes steaming wardrobes apparently) while munching on popcorn and drinking sparkling wine.

Be careful what you wish for - the Rex lounge may have newspapers, but the Virgin lounges are still way, way better overall!

Rex lounges are a deadset embarrassment. I hope VA never match their pathetic excuse for a lounge although maybe VA can make some money by charging for F&B like Rex have in certain lounges
