Christmas rewards flights

Just had a fresh batch of Qantas points hit my account from my latest credit card churn and would love to book a cheeky Christmas getaway. Looking at the Qantas website the "where can I go" feature seems to have been disabled for a while now, and I can't find any classic reward availability out of Australia.

Is there any chance of snagging a flight out Aus to anywhere international on 25 December, or is it impossible on this date this late? Ideal dates would be 25 Dec - 2 Jan, happy to go anywhere out of Australia and even happy to get just one way on classic rewards and pay for the other leg.

It's definitely still working. I'm not sure what city you want to depart from but I just tried SYD:

- Round trip, there is nothing for those dates
- One way, departing 25 Dec from SYD there are Y seats to LAX and some other North American destinations, Port Moresby or Honiara. Tacking on a cash fare for the return leg could prove costly at that time of year however.

You may or may not find some more seats may be opened up especially closer to departure but at this time it'd be difficult to make everything line up. You'd just have to keep checking.

If the cash fare is booked with Qantas in the same booking, you can actually access Sale pricing just fine. For instance;

This offers a decent redemption and saving over a return cash fare, which costs about $1100 more. (41,900 pts for $1100 is a pretty decent redemption for Econ)

The downside here will be your fare change/cancellation rules will be that of the sale fare for the whole booking, instead of the more flexible rules if it was all reward (5000/6000pts change/cancel).

There is also a reward seat on the return leg via. Brisbane on the 2nd of Jan, although it is an A330-200 transpacific Can't get it to come up again, maybe a glitch on the website :/

Also assuming there's AA award space, there's a few other US cities that you should be able to connect onto on the same booking out of LAX.

For instance, to Austin;

Cash price for this would otherwise be $3100, so a decent use of points too.

I'm also seeing Business awards to Auckland on the 25th of December and Economy/Business on the 24th.
