A few months ago I decided that it would be good to stay in Australia over Christmas and just enjoy the low key holiday travels with family and relatives.

In the last few days started looking at the cost of local accommodations, food, petrol etc and Asia seems like such good value. I now that redemption tix are unlikely to be available....until I searched.

I'm amazed that out of Brisbane I can score 2 x J Savers to almost anywhere in Asia...including Cambodia, Vn, KL, Japan, Shanghai. Departs 24,25, 26, 27th, returning after new year 3/4th.

I'm still having discussions with Mrs Albatross about impetuously jetting off for Christmas..so I thought I'd let you guys know there are redemption opportunities if you want to go for a spot of shopping and chillie craw.

Thanks Alby!
This time of year is about the only time to consider Asia if you dislike humidity and heat.
We are going to boost the Melbourne and Sydney economies this end of year seeing there is a cricket game on.
I think we might try London for 2014 New Year.

I often book my points sectors well in advance for certainty.

I have enough points to always review the options a few days out to get a better deal/airline configuration.

Sometimes you get a much better chance at short notice!

Must have the points up your sleave though.

Works well for F class where seats often open up t-3 days!

I flew SQ last year between Xmas and New Year, AMS-SYD. J half empty.

by way of update...instead of international J, I took a road trip to the Whitsundays, enjoyed Aussie hospitality along the way, met plenty of amazing volunteers manning the Driver Reviver stops and the best part, when in the Whitsundays caught plenty of fish, swam with lots of wildlife and had a relaxing time.

Now, I'm well rested to get into my year of international travel.

Happy travels.

Sorry if I ask: I am looking for 2 J savers from Japan (any airport) to Syd during Christmas and failed to find availability even with Standard award seats. Not sure if it is worthwhile stocking KF miles if they limit their award seat availability.

I think some locations are going to have a longer lead time on availability. I guess the stronger economy in Japan may also drive demand for the redemption seats. My post was just about the availability of some seats out of Brisbane at short notice.

Two years ago I took family of four on J redemption tix around Asia over Christmas but in this case worked to have the majority of the redemptions committed two months in advance.

I think it comes down to flexibility. There are usually some redemption to 'somewhere' at short notice. Specific locations on a tight schedule takes more planning.

Welcome to the forum, btw.
