Looking to use QFF to do a Circle Pacific SYD/HGK/LAX/SYD (on in and out of Bris.) next April and buy one fare for the wife, both J class, can't seem to get BC seats from QFF site on return sector. I guess have to call QFF and lose points to book?, also any links to buy seat for good woman?.

As HKG-LAX is going to involve CX you will not be able to book awards online and will need to call QFF and book over the phone.

I had that issue last year. Trying to book a "Circle Pacific" fare and had to do it by telephone, because it couldn't be done online. Yet they still deducted 2x 5000 points for the 5 minutes work. I had done all the hard work and suggested flights etc.

It does seem inequitable to be charged a fee for something that cannot be done online!

When I arrived home from my trip, I wrote to QF and suggested that it was unfair. In return, I got a telephone call with a long not very convincing explanation that really didn't address the issue. I was sent a gift basket and 2 lovely $200 vouchers.

I still think it is outrageous to charge a fee for a telephone booking when there is no other way to make the booking. How difficult can be to enhance the search engine so you can book online?

$200 in exchange for 5000pts seems an ok outcome in the end!

Agree though it's rubbish that they charge for a non-online bookable trip.

Well I called QFF, no luck at all even 8 months out for Circle Pacific, even if I buy one for my wife, one would think they would be happy with the extra 9 grand and be a bit more flexible.

It seems once again if I want to book using FF points for international travel I need to do it about 12 months out, this has been my experience on 3 occasions now, just so few QFF seats for so many, and using points and $ is an expensive exercise , so I'll have a re think about staying with QFF or not.

So it now looks like QFF points x 2 to Hong Kong, then buy CPX to LAX return HKG, Q misses out totally.

Agreed. The only problem with the vouchers is that they expire in 11 months. So I have booked some flights WELL in advance. You have to telephone to use the vouchers too, but I argued my way out of paying the telephone fee!!

IME, QF customer service is far superior to DJ. Never had an unresolved issue with JQ either.

This seems to be the major complaint about QFF. Plenty of points earning opportunities, few reasonable "burning" uses.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

measly bronze, I get my points from around ANZ/Amex $15K spend a month.

Think as few QFF seats available 95% of time / places I want to book 6/8months out think I should find better FF program if there is one.

Gave up on circle pacific using QFF points for April next.

That's the exact reason some of us switched allegiance years ago over to AA. Not only did my recent 3x J&F award seats cost 500K less in AA points, but the fuel fines were significantly less.

(BrisVegas Traveller they are ex-BNE via HKG as well [to UK though] and in May 2011, so I had similar issues to your itinerary :)). The funny thing is that most flights are QF (one CX and BA sector thrown in for good measure).
