Get this.

Went to buy my Tattslotto ticket with my Citibank Credit Card (the one that gives me one point per dollar with no cap) and it was declined.

Called them today and they said that any "gambling" type vendors, are now banned from accepting Citibank credit cards.

What will be next, alcohol, tobacco etc???

BTW, the shop also sell chocolates.

Social responsibility gone mad, or what?:!:

It does sound a bit "nanny state"-like...reminds me of the situation where, for many years, the computers in QC lounges were blocked from accessing the Tattslotto website.

Maybe its based not on morality but a concern that you could use gambling purchases to in effect get a cash advance from the card while earning points.

I have a feeling that you don't get points for cash advances anyway, but good point!

This is due to Citibank not supporting gambling or online gambling. It changed a few years back after online gaming was restricted in the USA.

You can't use any citibank cards on any online gambling websites to this date.

Looks like the local Tatts agents have been caught up in the restriction on gambling. Many of these agents are also newsagents...

Not that I use my Citi card for gambling lol, but have been aware for a few years of this restriction, and agree that it comes from their US base.
Global banks may have to comply with certain restrictions, that may strike us an icongruous. However I don't think Citibank are alone in this gambling restiction.

CLARIFICATION: the shop was a "bricks and mortar" one at my local shopping centre. Not an on-line store.

Bizarre. I use mine all the time for lotto. I'll have to try again this week.

Same here - Saturday Paper and a 50 game auto pick whenever there's a >$10M Ozlotto jackpot... and I'm still coming back for more punishment every time. Can't use Amex, but that's the vendor not the credit supplier's restriction.
