Indonesian LCC Citilink will launch flights from Perth to Bali from 28 October 2019 using an A320.

Shame about the timings on the return (leaving DPS at 1.10am and arriving at 4.50am).

Doesn't parent company GA also fly that route? (As well as PER-CGK)
Guess they want to compete with JQ and Indonesia Air Asia. And Batik of course.
Seems a strange decision.

Yep. I wonder what J pax loads are like on GA.

Is it really that strange, QF and JQ both fly daily SYD-DPS return on wide bodies leaving within 10 minutes apart each way.

I'm surprised QF can't make a PER-DPS flight on a 738 profitable. There has to be a market for it.

I have flown Citilink a few times, they are pretty good for a LCC. I generally only fly Garuda or Citilink.

NB. on website they say a golf bag is free inclusion, but on checkin they will ask you to handover 300,000rp (or 200). YMMV, be prepared to show them the website baggage page.

QF wouldn't be able to compete with the JQ MAX fares on PER-DPS..... unless they used a widebody.

Just wandering

In what sense? Cost? I just picked some cheap dates on J*. Max return fare is $543. Why couldn't QF compete with this? QF can do PER-SIN return for less than that. DPS is much closer.

Look at the flex fares that QF charge on PER-SIN for comparable rates (ie 50 SC each way). These are normally well in excess of $1000 round trip.

Early requalification is happy wandering

GA now fly a 737-800 in place of the a330. That came as a nasty shock to the system, especially as air fares seem to have also dropped from what we booked a few months ago. This is probably as a result of Citilink coming

Looks like they don't have approval yet as no seats are available for any day from 28 Oct - March 2020

I see they have now applied for a OOL-DPS service aswell.
Scheduled for one per week starting November 29th in a A320

Proposed schedule as follows.

QG560 DPS2220 – 0605+1OOL 320 5
QG561 OOL0710 – 1150DPS 320 6

Apparently this was filed in error (however that happens).

There may be a market, but perhaps QF decided that it could use each of its B738s more profitably elsewhere.

In addition to the flooded market on the PER-DPS. I'm assuming there's 'not enough' of the "cashed up" desirables to subsidise the economy 'budget' traffic on PER-DPS to make a QF 738 PER-DPS service viable?

SYD and MEL with the larger populations would naturally have more "cashed up" desirables to subsidise the economy 'budget' traffic to DPS.

Pretty sure that was more for aircraft and crew utilisation reasons than just loads or revenue.

When we travelled VA back in 2014, I remember the return flight at least was quite empty with a lot of spare seats, we paid $431 return.

With the LCC’s, you can fly 2 people for this price whilst even Batik Air with the extras is available for $220 return next year.

The route is certainly leisure & price sensitive, I’m flying next week with Citilink due their exceptionally cheap pricing at this time of year so will report back on this.
