Well two years ago I found my business underwater and I needed to make a claim on the credit card insurance upon which I was covered for a trip which I needed to cancel. No problems.

This time around I need to do a double somersault with pike. Family four of us 2A + 2K are two nights into a 21 day European holiday, everything pre-paid, everything co-ordinated. Just sitting here in London on Marriott Platinum challenge ready to hit the escape button if water enters our Brisbane building. Regular updates on morning TV of the Qld floods.

I would appreciate any thoughts and experiences people might have on the thought process. I know that we will not be out of pocket getting home and cancelling BUT what about trying to get all four of us here again with the same holiday plans and leave periods. While the travel insurance will get us home, we've really lost the initial travel expense to get here for two nights.

What things have people considered when making the decision to abort a travel plan?

Alby I'm sorry to hear that you're in this position and have my fingers crossed that you don't get flooded.

I have no idea re trying to re book exactly the same holiday. I am guessing you would get everything refunded, but not knowing what your policy is..I can't say. Not sure what you mean about the same holiday plans and leave period...do you mean same time next year? I guess availability would play a part.

Please keep us up to date with your situation.

Alby I think you have to wait 36 to 48 hours to see if you are going to be safe when it is high tide.

Thanks for the thoughts. I was well prepared. In the end the flood height ending up being 60cm less than predicted which meant we had 30 cms to spare. On this occasion we dodged a bullet.

My thoughts about cancelling plans was that it is actually hard to co-ordinate the four family members to all have holidays at the same time with their various jobs etc. Same for my holidays I have to take into account the other staff. So all up it could have been another 2-3 years before all four of us could be here again at the same time...not to mention having co-ordinated all of those J redemptions.

Back to the holiday - England is rainy and overcast but not too cold. Next stop on the weekend is the predicted snow in Switzerland.

Alby please try to get those East Enders to warm up my little bit of London. We get there in the middle of February.
Missing the latest floods was really good for you. Enjoy your holiday with the family.
