Hi all,

I'm a total newbie when it comes to swapping QFF points with free flights, and have been confused trying to understand the difference between Classic Awards and Any Seats Awards.

Can someone explain them to me? their difference and benefits?

Thanks heaps!

Regards
Richie

Hi richie,

the main differences are:

Classic awards: are a fixed cost, and do not include taxes. They also do not accrue status credits or points

AnySeat awards: include the taxes, however the price varies based on availability. You do earn points and Status credits.

Also

Classic awards have limited availability.

Any Seat Awards can be purchased if there is a seat for sale on the flight; provided you are willing to pay the points, which increase depending on the cash cost of the seat and can reach excessive levels.

Sent from my iPhone using Aust Freq Fly app so please excuse the lack of links.

Thanks to all for your quick reply.

Seems like the ASA is the more popular choice as it allows you to earn SC. However, it may cost more QFF points as compared to Classic Awards.

Thanks again.

Have a look at the following thread which discussed booking an any seat award at the classic award level.

Personally I've only travelled on JASA's - never classic awards & in more than one case the points level required is actually less than a classic but maybe $150.00 difference only in cash paid.

I recently earned 180SC & 8,861 ff points for a HNL/SYD/BNE JASA.

with some careful research an ASA can be had for around the same cost as a classic + taxes. I will certainly use them over a classic award if I can..

Thanks again - fantastic tip re ASA.
I should have consulted this forum when I booked my family a return trip to HK last year using Classic Awards..

Easy to find ASA on domestic flights, will need to book 9/12 months out to get any decent deals on international flights, can be done with searching on regular basis, higher your QFF status more flights available. Take a SYD/LAX/SYD in J (Bus. class) normally average on ASA can be 400K points plus $800 fees/taxes, can be found for 192K points and + taxes.

It actually is cheaper for some routes thanks to the QF quirks!

Works out even better for WPs and SGs with the stays bonus, where the FF points you earn will help offset the points burned for the award flight. Particularly long haul int flights.
