Hi,
My son in law missed his connecting flight to SFO caught up in immigration at LAX for over 2 hrs.Was flying BNE to LAX connecting to SFO using classic rewards points all the way.He has a return flight LAS-LAX-BNE classic rewards, all his flights are on one booking ref number..Are his return flights still valid, have read somewhere if you miss a sector your remaining flights are deemed invalid.
Ty in advance

What happened after he missed his original LAX-SFO flight, did he get rebooked onto the next service?

Did AA rebook him on the next flight to SFO?

If he was rebooked and flew the sector to SFO then no worries.

If he missed it and did not go to AA or whoever the operating airline was, there's a chance the remainder could be cancelled. I doubt it though assuming he sorted it out at LAX.

Of course the best way to know is to check the booking :)

as long as the United flight was organised for him by AA then it should be fine.

I have missed connecting flights (even QF to QF) in LAX due to immigration delays and it was never an issue when the connecting flight was on the same ticket.

Yes got a united flight, last flight to SFO
As long as your son in law was rebooked onto the UA LAX-SFO by the original operator (AA) and he didn't just buy another separate LAX-SFO ticket then the return segments will remain intact.

Exactly - first port of call for the answer to see if booking is still intact.
Agree. When something like this happens the agents on the ground don’t always ticket correctly. So while travel was completed, it can so,estimes record as a ‘no show’ and cancel the rest of the ticket.

Always best to call and confirm the remainder of the ticket is ok to fly.

Another +1 for this.

Yep, I have had this happen. Was just starting out on an OWA about 2 years ago, and QF11 was late into LAX and missed our connection to MCO. We also missed the replacement flight due to CBP delays, and were eventually put on Delta to fly across direct by the ground team.

After an extra long travel day, I open my QF app to see the rest of the US flights on the OWA had been cancelled, as it appeared we had been marked as a no-show for (first) replacement flight which was still showing in the app along with our flight on Delta. Cue a number of phone calls to the QF helpline, a long night, and a very stressful day or two waiting for the flights to be reinstated (which they eventually were).

This was also pre the ticketing escalations email so at that stage any issue with an OWA could have been terminal.
