Hi Gang,

I've just received a referral promotion from my favourite Aussie bar tab app, Clipp (Clipp - The Bar Tab App). Basically, use my referral code '9RNE4' as you sign up, and you'll get $15 free credit on your first bar tab at any venue which accepts Clipp. After you've closed your first tab, I'll also get the same as a credit for my own next tab as a bonus for referring you!

I'm a very regular user of the Clipp app when in Australia, and the venues who accept it are many! About the only thing which can irritate, is that the process begins with a hold on your funds (on a credit card), based on user-selected bar tab limit. .. The hold is lifted after the actual final bill is charged, but this process can take a couple of business days to complete. A pain if you set a tab for $100 but then spend only $50, as the unused $50 is not released for a couple of days. Outside of that, I couldn't be happier. A great app, and with no extra fees or surcharges for the customer!

Yep, in the app, as mentioned above, but also the first link above can take you to the 'venues' search on their website, at the top of the page... look for your favorites there. You'll be surprised at how well they are implemented!

I prefer the way my local handle me, I rock up, I drink, I leave, they send me an invoice at the end of month, I then fill in the credit card payment slip and all is done.

Thanks, JohnM - I think you're going to like it.

All you need to do when you get to your preferred watering hole, is to fire up the app, choose the venue from the list (which is sorted based on distance), set the limit for the tab (which you can add to later, by the same increments), choose the card to charge (I have work and personal + visa debit cards loaded), then enter your passcode or touch id to confirm the tab and order away!

When the tab opens, it assigns a tab number which you show to the staff on your phone when you order. Drinks appear right away and as you go, and then when you are done, simply close the tab via the app, set a tip amount (if you are so inclined), and walk (or stumble) away!

The great thing about that last step, is that if you forgot to close your tab when leaving, it doesn't really matter, as the venue can just close it for you when they shut. No more lost cards and drivers licenses from the 'quiet catch up' you had the night before ☺

When then venue closes the tab, you get tax invoices (both detailed, and summary versions) emailed in PDF format to your nominated email.

Oh yes, that was me a few times too!. .. I also sometimes forget to close tabs using this thing (sensing a theme about my nights out?), but at least the bar manager can just close it for me when he chooses, and there's no harm done!
