Hi

I have just joined club Carlson, in anticipation of staying at a Radisson Blu (the only reputable hotel near DEL, I'm told, although a HI opens Feb)

I see they have a promo with 60,000 points in lieu of the usual 40,000 for USD $280.

No idea what the burn rates are with radisson and their ilk, and I was just wondering if anyone thought this looks like good value.

Doesn't look like purchased points count towards elite status, but I've sent a begging letter asking for a status match for IHG Platinum, fingers crossed there, it feels a bit ordinary to be NB equivalent :(

Club Carlson is one of the best loyalty programs in terms of earning points and redemption of free nights.
The problem is their properties in Asia Pacific are not many and not the best IMO.

The promo they currently have is not a very good value. I remember they had 75% bonus a few months ago.
To give you an idea, a night at Radisson Blu Sydney this month will cost you ~300aud (280usd) or 50,000 points.

You should be able to get a status match through IHG but only to Gold, they don't match to concierge which their top tier.
I did it through my HH platinum.

Well I got the status mstch, and pretty quick too. SG will do just fine and dandy...now for a booking

They are an Ok program but as you say coverage here and in Asia is terrible, earn is easy as they usually have a stay 2 get 50 or 30k promo during the year but burn is best left for NA or Europe where their points value can shine.

The sweet spot for me is clearly on the Cat 1 or Cat 2 properties at 9K, 15K but I dont get to fly to Egypt, Estoni, Finland, Greenland, Guatamala that often! NA also good but not in the big cities!

Smorgasbord of properties available at DEL. I have booked at the Radisson Blu Plaza near the airport; good reports from others here re that one. 1/2 the price of Connaught Place.

Checked out the 'personalised upgrade' offers on my reservation. A bit overhyped. A small discount off paying the extra for a more expensive room, big deal.

I got the promo email some weeks ago and it seems you can transfer club carlson points to AA but at a very low burn rate ?

Yes there are some hidden gems, but there's no rhyme or reason. We got suite at the Park Inn in Reykjavik with stunning panoramic views for the princely sum of 9k per night!
