Over on FT there is a thread of 'good deal' premium fares but often they are only alluded to and if a poster dares to mention details then they are roundly criticised as such for 'letting the cat out of the bag'.

These fares seem to predominantly come out of CMB or MNL with a few ex BKK (such as Egypt Air to JFK).

I cannot make anything really special happen out of CMB - can anyone else? In particular, an Emirates fare is talked about but I can’t find anything.

The best one I have found so far is MNL-HKG-SFO-YVR on SQ in J (new 777-300ER) for AUD 1100 inc taxes. This seems to be a consistently available fare so long as the legs are all together.

Also, JFK-IST-KUL with TK is pretty good as well. Again in J for under AUD1300 but you can stopover in IST.

Also, I don’t have KVS or anything like that. Just cheapoair.com or kayak.com.

So – does anyone have any ideas or have they stumbled across red hot deals from Asia?

Does it take skill to find cheap airfares?

Most times I think it is sheer luck finding a very cheap airfare.

By the way the fares you posted look really good but then one needs to find their way there from their home airport adding additional time and money to the trip.

I miss the CX bonanza ex SIN last year. Ex TPE are still there, but much more difficult to position effectively.

My first DONE4 was ex CMB in mid-06 - cost me under A$6k for 20 segments... those were the days.
Did a quick day return spending time on the Colombo beachfront and hotel.

My understanding is there are still some good IATA fares CMB-USA, but unsure if elsewhere.

How about return? Same price i.e. A$1100, a total of A$2200?
Sure SQ going MNL-HKG?

Sure SQ going MNL-HKG?

The return isn't really that good. It goes up to about $3700.

The flight from MNL-HKG is with Hong Kong Express or CX.
