Hi all,

I'm in NZ. ANZ Bank used to have a Visa card that accrued QFF points. It's no longer available but there has been grandfathering of existing cardholders, at least so far. QFF points can also be obtained from NZ spend through the AmEx Membership rewards programme. However AmEx acceptance seems to be declining and / or increased fees being charged.

Are there any other ways NZers can earn non-BIS QFF points?

Thanks for any help, I'm sure all NZers on the forum would appreciate it.

Are you wanting to earn substantial points, or just enough to keep it ticking over so they don't expire?

Only way is to fly JQd which will earn QFF points and QF SC.
Not very expensive, by the looks of it, even starter fares earn 400 QFF points, and probably 10 QF SC.
Here in Aust, you have to buy a bundle and pay more to earn QFF points and QF SC flying JQd.
Not sure what BIS means, is that a way of earning QFF points as a business operator in NZ.

Hi Offshore, looking to earn substantial points to add to the points from flying JQ or QF (internationally only).

Thanks AP, appreciate the link. BIS is bums in seats, ie flying.

That AA fuel one (as in auto assoc of NZ) card is the only one left.
But need to build up to min amount to auto transfer.
No points to QFF from any shopping at supermarkets in NZ either by the looks of it.
Don't think QTMC can be held by NZ residents.
I know I can spend it there but can it be applied for by NZ residents us the main thing.

I look after some QFF accounts for NZ family.
Is hard to get substantial QF ff points in NZ (from non flying activity). Or just enough to keep accounts alive.
Have rental cars & hotels.
AA Smartfuel/Countdown Onecard-->(24 March 2021) Travel-lovers set to benefit as AA Smartfuel’s new partnership with Qantas Frequent Flyer takes flight
(for those in AU, the NZ supermarket Countdown is owned by Woolworth AU)

Link to FT QFF keeping points alive without flying

Edit
For Amex NZ QF is listed as a transfer partner. Will vary depending the Amex card (looking from AU, so page view from NZ may be different)

Thanks M, we fly often enough to keep the points alive, but I look across the ditch and see all the credit card and other offers and am quite green. Looks like I've just got to keep my ANZ QFF card going and hope AmEx acceptance improves over time.
Cheers

Thanks AP, I guess QTMC means Qantas Mastercard? We don't have such a card here unfortunately.

It's a Qantas debit prepaid card, issued by Heritage Bank here in Aust.
No credit assessment, so good for those on low income, or card to avoid card scams, it's debit so can't over spend or fraudsters can't go over balance.

Perhaps it's time to switch to AirPoints?
Lol! I don't think so but thanks for your interest. Much easier to achieve reasonable value on QFF, at least once things return to something approaching normal.

We've had a OWA and many business class trips over the years at an effective cost a fraction of what NZ's Airpoints scheme would have cost and we're well on the way to planning another OWA for the MD's 65th. Don't know how we would have done that on NZ.

There really aren’t too many options. I have a grandfathered ANZ Qantas Visa Platinum which I use for day to day purchases where my Amex isn’t accepted. Though points earn is arguably quite rubbish.

1 QFF per $1 spent up until $20,000 per annum. Then 1 QFF per $2 spent after that
2 QFF per $1 spent on Qantas/Jetstar

The other option you have is amex. People talk about Amex not being accepted but it is accepted in most large places - supermarkets, petrol station, most mainstream stores. You won’t be able to use it in cafes or small retailers usually - so that’s what the Visa is for.

2 options

I have the old Amex platinum edge which is 3/2/1 points for supermarkets/petrol/other spend Though it is no longer available. For $149/year it came with a domestic return flight on air NZ which is usually use to Queenstown/Dunedin which pays for itself. I only have this card because I tried to cancel it earlier this year and they gave me 200,000 MR to keep it going so meh

I also have a platinum charge which is 2 MR/1 NZD, which converts to 1 QFF/1 NZD with no cap. Having said that, I tend to transfer to krisflyer anyways….

The other option which we used to have was qantas cash which was….. terrible

But otherwise smartfuel is probably the main on to keep points alive…

Thanks for this, I'm using the AmEx Platinum Rewards credit card with the turbo option. This effectively can give 1 point per $ as well. We're aiming at another OWA so will warehouse in AmEx then transfer when there's another bonus transfer offer

Perhaps this is a crazy thought but will just put this out there to get people's thoughts. What is to stop someone from signing up for an EveryDayRewards card here in Australia, then scanning said EverydayRewards card at Woolies in NZ to collect QF points?

Simple....we don't have Woolworths haha
Countdown NZ is owned by Woolworths AU. Use the same logo and some products are same The NZ & AU loyalty cards don't work in the other country (have swiped in error). NZ also has Flybuys

off topic
Maybe NZ could join the Australian Commonwealth. Personally I'd be happy to swap NZ in and swap NSW out.
NZ is still mentioned in the AU Constitution.

The Constitution gives New Zealand the option to join Australia. Covering clause 6 of the Constitution states New Zealand may be admitted into Australia as a state. New Zealand has not yet taken up the offer.

Different operating system.
Would be like trying to use an Opal public transport card from NSW in Auckland's AT bus/train/ferry, and pretending you didn't know any better.
No harm in trying when you next visit Aust, put in a friends address so the card gets posted to them, and then you take the card to NZ and try it at Countdown.
I am sure if I take my Aust flybuys card and try it at New World or any of the places over there, my Aust flybuys card will not work.
