Combining Qantas Reward Booking

Hello All,

Booked BNE > DXB > Europe return with Emirates using QFF points earlier in the year for Jan 2024.

Only problem is now we are moving to Canberra.

Can I book a CBR > BNE reward fare and combine it with this booking? If not, can I book a cash fare and combine the two?

I’m trying to ensure minimal disruption with transfers (possible missed connections etc) and interlining of luggage.

Appreciate the advice!

You can't book a separate ticket and combine the two bookings, but you may be able to amend your current booking by adding the connecting flight. You will need to call to do this and hope to find a capable and competent agent.

If there are available rewards flights CBR-BNE you can call QF and have these added you your existing booking. In addition to the points and fees and taxes QF will slug you a change fee of 5000 points per pax. Also if you change a booking that involves EK get the agent to get confirmation/ re-ticketed on the phone, EK are notorious for cancelling flights if not re-ticketed within the TTL. If you go down the cash route your bags can be interlined but you will not have the same level of protection for delayed/ missed connections as the flights are on separate bookings.

Also welcome to AFF.

Thanks you for your replies and the welcome - much obliged.

Appreciate the help. I will attempt to have the CBR > BNE added onto the tickets.

Thanks!

Worse case scenario QF will interline to EK on seperate PNRs so you can still put your baggage through to and get your DXB boarding passes in CBR if you had to make a seperate booking. But best to have it all on the same PNR if possible as you get protection if there are any disruptions.

A bit risky. The call centre may mess around with your existing bookings as they have been known to do including inadvertently cancelling the ticket. I would be wary of fiddling with it.

If the BNE-DXB ticket is issued by EK, I'm not sure if a QF issued CBR-BNE can be added to the same PNR. Someone can confirm if this is possible. Even if technically possible, the issue is finding someone capable/skilled at doing it at the QF call centres. Possibly a proper travel agent can assist for a fee.
@madrooster

In any case QF will check your bags through to DXB and issue boarding passes to DXB even if you had a separate ticket.

Very easy to add a domestic leg to the booking, but they will sting you for a change fee. Just call up and ask.

Classic reward seats are always on QF tickets. Adding a domestic leg to the PNR should be bread and butter skills for any call center operator.

It would be best to modify the existing booking to include CBR-BNE. QFLink is often notorious for delays so you wouldn't want to no show on the EK flights as a result of being delayed on CBR-BNE.

In the original post, it was mentioned the flights was booked with QF points. I have assumed it is a classic reward booking and if so it will be under the EK flight number. Any QF partner or OW airline can be added to a QF classic reward booking, it can often be confusing as if just booking with just OW carriers the OW rules and the QF points cap are in play. Adding in a QF partner which is not OW is allowed however you use more points. If the booking has been made as points + pay I am assuming this may also be possible but have never booked this way as it not a good use of points.

This is not true, to use the oneworld table you need at least two oneworld airlines other than QF to qualify.

EK is included in the main table along with most of oneworld. There is also an inner circle of airlines with reduced points which is QF, JQ, AA, FJ and NF.

I do not believe my post is wrong but may not have been clear. EK (which is the airline mentioned) was removed from the inner circle of airlines a couple of years back. It is my understanding that QF to EK rewards are now calculated in total as QF CBR-BNE, EK BNE-DXB as separate for points purposes. A few years back rewards flights if less than 24hrs QF to EK and reverse where treated as through flights.

Your post indicated EK costs more than oneworld flights, that’s the bit I was correcting. It may have just been your wording but that’s how I interpreted it.
