OK.... I don't think this is considered thread hijack as benmay and i are in a different state, a different hotel and the event is now in the past.

Please take this in the spirit it was intended. It is for comic relief only!!!

So...... I'm about to head for London... I am not too sure when I will get to have a meal with benmay again....... AND..... As he was going to be in SYD for a "words with friends" meeting.... It seemed opportune for us to catch up for a few days.

Neither myself or benmay are particularly fond of "buffet work"... And we both missed the Gold Coast Buffet.

Tonight we thought we would give Luke Mangan another opportunity to impress so we ate in at the hotel.

I am also thinking of a new event which some may wish to attend.... Your glamorous hosts will be..... Myself and benmay (With his freshly minted CL Partner membership)

Please read on......... BUT..... Also..... Please take this with a pinch of salt.

Re: Mid Year AFF XMAS Drinks and Dinner - 30 June 2012, Hilton Surfers Paradise, QLD

I am thinking we could get the BIGGEST ever AFF function , one to Blow your socks off

I am Thinking 50 Chaffing dishes with such diverse menu items as mini pies, in ....wait for it.... 3 different flavours, Chicken and Corn, Heart Mince & Tuna Mornay.... A virtual cornucopia of seafood, including such favourites as Sweet and sour fried fish, Prawn Curry and Rice, and Stuffed Squid Tubes. We can then have an array of Potato Salads, Noodle salads, and the ubiquitous, beetroot and lettuce with a garnish of Orange slices.

No Buffet would be complete without the Chicken curry and rice, beef stew, and Rissoles in Gravy. Loads of chips, and a generous serving of potato bake.

To complete the evening, the final dish of black and gold chocolate mouse with artificial orange flavoured filling. (benmay's personal favourite) The cheese cake factory can do the rest of the desserts

BUT in order to get this done properly we can only go to the best. so Ipswich RSL and Bowls club it is.

I reckon this will be a hit, and it will only cost $29.99, not including wine (includes $10.00 in gaming coupons and two free games of bowls......)

An extensive wine list will be available including a range of sparkling wines (both Pink AND yellow) and quality Red options from Chateau Collapso

There will be chicko rolls for the vegetarian option.

Entertainment will be provided in the form of the hit Northern Territory band "Azaria and the Dingoes" ....................................but I digress

As a total bonus... The Ipswich RSL has agreed to waive their usual credit card surcharge for American Express Centurion cardholders.... This could mean you may earn as much as 30 Qantas frequent flyer points.... Bringing you ever closer to the P1 Status you obviously deserve by holding such a credit card.

With the potential number of interested attendees.... Let's not worry about aircraft hangers.... We MAY need an Olympic Stadium!!

Darra RSL is vastly superior. But that's not much of a buffet - no roast! WTF!

Still sounds better than a Luke mangan steak.

You forgot the sweet and sour pork

Oh! Cheese Cake Factory. I'm definitely on board for that.

I am in.

But what is the coffee offering's. Is it International Roast instant and also lipton's tea bags for the tea drinkers with slightly chipped China cups.

But you can give the Vegetarian's Chicken

Thankfully I have no reason to ever be near Ipswich so I will have to pass on this gourmet extravaganza...

What about Sweet Corn and Salmon Mornay (with the lovely bread crumb topping), plus those 1/2 oranges with the pickled onions and cheese on tooth picks? Come on, get a bit of class!

.....and can we please stay in a B&B? That's my absolute favourite. I just love spending the night with people who took their Retrenchment packages and decided to go into the Hospitality Industry

Found the thread again
Sounds like a great evening. Good times ahead! Gotta feel sorry for all those people actually doing some work ATM

Who are they? What are their names?

I'm inclined to feel offended, at least that was my initial reaction. Until I felt sorry for those who clearly have no idea about buffets, in particular the joy that is a great buffet, and are only having laugh because they know no better. Ignorance is bliss as they say.

PS
Actually, the genesis of this "comic relief" makes me want to add a serious comment. It is believe that AFF members cannot respect the efforts that people make to contribute to our community, instead feeling the need to make fairly obvious attacks at people. AFF has benefitted from all the dos that all members organise. But it is really sad when people feel the need to belittle organisers of other events. Especially when they have organised stuff and hence must be fully aware of all the difficulties involved. Why can't we all just appreciate the contribution that people are trying to make?

I've been called selfish, childish, sulky and petulant on AFF and those appear to be acceptable characterisations of other AFF members. BUT I'm definitely not going to use those words about anyone else, because that is usually when they become unacceptable and I get a posting holiday.

BTW I'm am really surprised that this thread has been allowed to stand. It just adds fuel to simmering tension. For the wellbeing of AFF I would have thought the thread would have been deleted before now.

Book the bloody Maxi Taxi...... Benmay and I have found a motel which will deliver microwaved poached eggs (harder that small stones) and soggy toast in a whte paper bag directly to our room!

Through a hole in the wall, no doubt

Cheers skip

Earlier today I moved this thread to the Playground as it didn't warrant being in the 'serious' parts of AFF. Seems to me that its no longer 'fun' and I am now going to close this thread. Some AFF members are really pushing boundaries here and taking advantage of our policy of 'free speech'. I really don't want to change this policy as I believe AFF will be a poorer place if we start limiting what can be said, but I may need to consider this. Don't force me to change our long-serving policy which has served AFF well over the years. I also want to thank those members who were offended by this thread for not responding publicly. Sometimes silence speaks louder.
