coming to australia for first time

I have lots of questions including - is it easy to fly stand-by once in Australia? I am coming in early April for 2 weeks and want to get around (Sydney - Adelaide - Brisbane areas). Any tips on car rentals would be appreciated.

"Standby" is generally not a feature of domestic air travel in Australia unless you are on the expensive "Fully Flexible" fares.
