Completely unexciting - New Y Class amenity kits

Look out for new economy class amenity kits soon. They resemble the SQ pack (last time I saw them anyway) in a zip-lock style pouch.

The kits no longer contain socks after an extensive study of the aircraft after a flight showed that not many people used them. However they are still loaded separately and are available on request.

Also to reduce waste, the packs are not individually wrapped, but contain a tamper seal. This also allows any unused packs to be used on a future sector, unlike in the past.

So they're copying (to some extent) CX who give you socks and earplugs, but you have to request eye shades.

If it reduces waste etc it's a good thing, but i'm sure the FAs are thrilled that there's one more thing for them to have to hand out.

I personally like the socks and will be asking for them every time.

I got one of these recently, the tamper seal is pathetic, you can just remove it and put it back on, and looks like new :shock:

Stingy? Maybe, but at the moment probably entirely reasonable. If they are going to be stingy, I'd prefer they cut back/cut out amenities than tamper with other things like meals, drinks, FF points etc.... Sounds sensible to me.
