I had a SYD-BNE flight recently when the CSM made an announcement after take off that there was complimentary beer, wine and soft drinks in the economy cabin. I was in 4D and got the impression the FA sitting next to him was trying to tell him he made a mistake.

Not sure who else took notice of the announcement but when the cart came around I asked that same FA if alcohol was complimentary. And she said yes. So I ordered a Pure Blonde.

I dont remember an announcement other than PER flights so perhaps CSM made a mistake.

It's been that way since the Feb??

All Economy guests receive complimentary tea, coffee and water on all Virgin Australia flights. In addition we also offer a selection of complimentary beer and wine on flights between Australian mainland capital cities, departing between 4pm and 7pm, Monday to Friday

Thanks AIRwin! It was announced ~2 years ago.

It is strange that I have had a few flights BNE-SYD Friday afternoon since announcement and this is the first time I actually recall an announcement on board offering complimentary alcohol.

Nice to know for next time.

It's always irked me that beer & wine is free, but soft drinks aren't - if I am driving at the other end then I can't have a beer, and tea/coffee at dinner time seems weird. The opposite of most American airlines where softies are free but you pay for beers!

I'm on the wagon and tell them as such, soft drink no problem.

The mistake was soft drink. Soft drink is never free for all unless it's a full service flight.
