SWMBO found out that for a few SCs more she would get a complimentary gold membership, (so off on another SC run here in the US today) not satisfied with this, she asked another question which I could not find the answer for, if she were to want platinum, does she have to earn the entire 1400 SCs to qualify?

Yes, the qual levels are always the same no matter how you got your current status!

Yep so she'd need another 700 SCs on top of the 700 earned for Gold status.

Not completely clear - are you talking about Partner Gold (where you need to get 2400 SCs and as a reward can pick between that or 50,000 QFF points) or earning SG on her own merit of 700 SCs?
In any case she'd need to earn the 1400 SCs herself from whatever amount she has now.

In theory all Gold memberships are "complimentary" - you don't pay for it per se, but the way you come about getting to that level is paid for in some way.

markis10 is correct.
To go from Partner Gold to Platinum the member needs to earn 1,400 SCs in their membership year (as well as 4 eligible flights).

yes, I was talking about the complimentary gold when I reach 2400 SCs, OK thanks, clear now, she would have to earn 1400 SCs by herself, so I guess when she is not with me, she will have to settle for the J lounge. By the way, my first experience of a F lounge is here at TB terminal at LAX - guess that things get better from here????

Yes, most definitely. TBIT isn't the worst F Lounge but it's pretty underwhelming ;)

I would say it is pretty much the worst lounge out of the major lounges. Given the significance of LAX for QF the lounge is pretty bad I feel. Although it is better than the QF lounge for WP at NRT...

I think the worst part about the lounge is the overcrowding even if nothing else changed, that would be a big improvement.

It will double in size come the completion of the TBIT west redevopment, along with being Newsonised ...

I have seen an overview where it will absorb the space to the North of the elevators (left as you come out) which is currently the *A lounge.

This was announced maybe a year ago.

How does it compare to BKK which I find comfortable but severely lacking in the food department but comfortable enough to have a shower and wait for a flight. Also known to get very crowded.

For a start the F lounge at BKK has not been overcrowded in my experience, I don't recall the champagne in the TBIT lounge (I had done atl-mia-jfk-dfw-lax already that day). I don't eat much at BKK in the F lounge generally though.

I would have replied earlier, but guess what, the internet was down in the TBIT at lax F lounge. I arrived at LAX three hours earlier to try to get a good bulkhead seat in Y with the platinum status, not really what I wanted, it was one of the older 747's where they have the three flight attendant seats covered over at the bulkhead, got the row behind this, and of course, aisle seat and continually woken through the night by the window seat px with the 100ml bladder capacity. Was good though to get the baggage first and express pass through customs, and the flight attendants did seem to hover about more in the area where I was and I guess the other platinum members
