Hi all

I'm booked SYD-HKG-FCO later in the year, flying J on QF127 then J codeshare CX (don't ask why I'm not on CX the whole way - it's a cosy work QF deal). I've never flown F before, and thought I'd spend my 25k points to attempt an upgrade SYD-HKG.

Assuming my upgrade lottery comes through (if not too many WPs/OWEs on same flight...), can I still get into the F lounge in HKG, seeing as I'm not in F on any onward travel?

Thanks for advice.

It does not really change to book answer, but I presume you are in F on QF127, not J as you have posted?

Thanks for the advice, guys.
[@serfty - am booked in J (I actually), am requesting a F upgrade. Would try for the whole way but the codeshare and 2-class config HKG-FCO stops that.]
I'm more than happy with the J lounge options. I guess I'll have to wait until I travel with one of my WP colleagues to get into the F lounge.

I don't think you're missing much. The CX J lounges in HK are pretty good, and none of the F lounges is actually that much better, IMO ... maybe better food, but not otherwise.

Just to hijack, having a QF j ticket entitles me to any 1W lounge at HKG. If so, what's the most recommended lounge for a pleb to go to?

Probably one of the most asked and least consenused questions you will get a response to...

CX in HKG is going through a bit of a revamp so some facilities are not open at the moment. One thought is just to go to the lounge near your departure gate - for QF that is often the QF J lounge.

Personally I prefer the CX lounges (but mainly as I get F access). I like the cabin but it has no showers.

I would avoid the Gate 16 lounge and the JL lounge.

The flight is not until late March, so I am aware of the works currently. So CX it is.

I don't think it is hard to beat the QF offering in their J-Lounge at HKG, well that is unless they have improved anything there in the last 2 years.

I've used the HKG F lounge since the rebuild, in my opinion it is very bog standard (if not sub-standard in terms of amenities, decor, food etc) and definitely nothing to write home about.

It's a pity I don't see me going WP by then, nor is there any F on QF68:(.

I don't think the honeymoon card will get me in either:p

When they built the new J lounge they just extended the F lounge into the J lounge space. There is a plan to refurb the F lounge to SYD F lounge standards.

The J lounge is very new and modern - I hate it because it feels like a dungeon but I am a vocal minority with that opinion.

Requested my upgrade today. Asked about F Lounge in HKG. Apparently a refurb is taking place now. Due to complete early December 2011, when the new F Lounge will open on the upper level(?). Too late for me, even if I could get in. Is this what was talked about in the "new spirit" plan? But I'll await reviews here on AFF after December.
