I can book a domestic SYD-MEL anyseat award in business for 16,000 points plus $55.13 (or 19,979 points) on flights that have a classic award seat available.

Similarly, I can book a first class anyseat award from SYD-HKG for 90,000 points plus $215.97 (or 104,665 points).

What happens if I want to cancel it?

On the booking page for SYD-MEL it says the fare is fully refundable.
SYD-HKG is also fully refundable but subject to a $341 cancellation fee.

The FF T&C for cancellations seems very confusing. Sections 15.6.1 and 15.6.2 seem to contradict each other.

I'm just about off to sleep now so no time of a detailed response right now. But have you read the last few pages of this thread
http://www.frequentflyer.com.au/com.../earning-status-credits-points-any-22270.html

I'll have to look up 15.6.2

edit 15.6.2 doesn't contridict it just is there to add clarity to the various points in 15.6.1. For example 15.6.1(c) is a case where 15.6.2 would be relevant. Really it is just stating how the unused values is calculated if not already stated in the other conditions.

Don't feel bad for being confused about this, it is a minefield that even QFF service centre don't know much about.

From what I have gleaned, fare conditions prevail, so on the SYD-MEL in J, you will get a full refund of points. On the F SYD-HKG, you will need to pay the cancel fee to get all your points back, otherwise in this case, it may be better to change (by phoning only...!) to another flight. Saying this, for that amount of points, you will be getting a classic award F seat through the AnySeat process, meaning if there are no other F classic award seats, you will be stuck with the $341 cancel fee . I don't know how this will work in practicality, as this will be more than what you paid... perhaps they will invoice you or just charge your card? ouch! :(

Oh, and don't do change or cancel online, as it will convert your points into a pathetic dollar value as a credit... beware!
