QANTAS didn't get a mention, but V Australia has picked up three awards at this year's Passenger Choice Awards. The Airline Passenger Experience Association offers the travelling public the chance to vote on which airline has the best product, service and innovations.

V Australia was voted best airline in the Asia and Australasia region, while also picking up Best Food and Beverage; and Best In-Flight Entertainment User Interface.

Taking out the top gong for Best Overall Passenger Experience were Emirates and Virgin America.

I'm still coming to grips with the fact there is such a thing as an Airline Passenger Experience Association.

Like, what do they do? Lobby airlines on our behalf because the ham was too thinly sliced on the gourmet sandwich?

It is not airline passenger run:
About APEX

The Airline Passenger Experience Association is a network of the world’s leading airlines, suppliers and related companies committed to elevating the level of the airline passenger experience. The association offers members a wide range of opportunities to excel in the airline passenger experience industry by keeping them current with the latest industry news, trends and developments and by helping them develop relationships with clients and colleagues from around the world.

Without wishing to take anything away from V Australia, who I am sure deserve the award, I am obliged to pass my usual comment on surveys of this type.

1. There is no attempt to ensure that a reasonable cross-section of passengers are covered in their sample.
2. There is no way to verify that anyone taking the survey actually flew on the airline or, for that matter, has ever flown at all.
3. There is no mechanism for preventing the flooding of the survey by the parties involved.

The survey is little better than a TV phone in survey which purports to represent the views of the audience. At best, it represents the views of those who bother to respond.

I also note that No-News heads its report with the fact that Qantas didn't rate a mention, but then few of us here would be surprised by that. (And I do not imply that QF should have featured in the results).

It is nice to win awards but the real proof in the pudding is passenger numbers and profit figures.

And usual it never hurts to try out the airline for yourself and then you can have your own opinion instead of relying on anothers opinion.

Agreed! Surprised even posted here by a mod.

Surprised a member since 2004 would suddenly expect mods to censor material before submission rather than let an educated robust discussion ensue . Members here are not known for this sort of behaviour when it comes to all things airlines:

Um censor?...Calm down markis10, I honestly just thought passing on this kind of information (from you) was a bit under your normal high standards!! (Which is a compliment to the information you normally impart).

That's all.... Sorry if I offended you.

Meh!Meh!Meh!Meh!

Summed up perfectly! I could set up a facebook poll with more depth!

I saw the link to News.com.au | News Online from Australia and the World | NewsComAu (insert cough or barf here) and decided to ignore the advertising in what they call news. Anything published by Rupert is not worth the newsprint or bandwidth.

PS. Nothing against the Virgin group.

Couldn't agree more!

Agreed! Surprised even posted here by a mod.

By a mod yes - but markis10, head of virgin PR on AFF, maybe not ;) (Jokes :))

Well regardless of who owns the paper that published it, or in fact the headline used.......it is still news that pertains to AFF. I for one learnt some things, like a) there is such an association; b) what they do; and c) that V Oz took it out! Where's the problem?

The day you stop learning something new, is the day you die!

Mission
APEX membership encompasses a network of businesses and professionals that are committed to providing a world-class airline experience for passengers around the globe. Every day, APEX members are concerned with the airline passenger's total travel experience, from ticket purchase through baggage claim, and they work to improve every aspect of the airline experience: from designing, building and installing seating, entertainment and communications systems on commercial aircraft, to airport lounges and inflight dining.
APEX serves as a resource to the businesses and professionals that create, deliver, and manage the airline passenger experience, and the association provides the industry with a forum for knowledge sharing, collaboration and networking.
Passenger Choice Awards

Meh! ... because ANYONE can submit a survey and as many times as they like (with little effort). Few controls, so while it's nice for DJ to get a gong or three, the gongs are worth little.

No offense taken at all, I start a lot of threads based on no news articles simply so they can be debated and referenced by other online looking for a more balanced view! I have given up commenting on their site, they never publish them.

That's all well and good but they need to offer a broader product. Getting a few more aircraft and flying a few more routes might be a good start. Whilst I now have my new elite status, unfortunately V don't really offer me many international services on which to take advantage of that, especially direct ones from MEL.

I think that will come in time, they are probably still smarting from the hiding they copped for running the JNB and NAN flights, some might say they were novice mistakes! Given the hiding poor old QF is suffering with its international ops, having a small operation might be a good thing in the present competitive environment, and making the most use of routes where you have an advantage makes sense.

I was amazed they tried JNB and coughet - these are non hubs. Why not HKG or for a holiday route HNL which is still a hub into North America, they have an aliance with DL who fly multiple routes HNL-mainland US. Wishful thinking perhaps ;) But maybe they just don't have the aircraft.
