Connecting flight cancelled -QF Proactively Looked after me (AKL to BNE to MEL)

Flew back from AKL to MEL via BNE on 14th - as was about to take off in AKL message advised that the BNE - MEL connecting flight had been cancelled, was re-booked on a BNE - CBR - MEL that was going to leave BNE 15 mins prior to us landing in BNE with the CBR - MEL connection allowing only 30mins (bizarre!).

Upon landing, BNE - CBR flight had been delayed but still missed it and of course was always going to miss the CBR - MEL connection portion anyway.

Very helpful service desk staff (not via lounge as just seen service desk was empty on way to lounge) was extremely apologetic and confused as to why on earth I was re-booked via a CBR flight leaving prior to my landing.

This was 6pm, absolutely nothing available (J) to get me to MEL that night so booked me on second flight out morning after (this morning) BNE - MEL. Arrived this morning to BNE early and was able to get moved to the first flight out instead (only carry on).

I was provided me with 2 Taxi Cab vouchers ($150 value each) for Airport to City, overnight accommodation and a $50 food/beverage credit on room. It does happen.

Yeah, this should be standard practice (except that the obvious connection issue should not have happened in the first place), not an exceptional case being worthy of a specific post celebrating the fact!

It was the Astor Metropole Hotel (Best Western) - price was $239 on Expedia when I checked last night.

Satisfactory for a complimentary one night crash between flights.

Agreed but posted to advise that it does happen and experiences differ.

Also, at no point did I ask for anything (and would have just as easily walked away making my own arrangements knowing I had a flight sorted out evening/morning) it was all offered to me during the process of settling.

He did make a phone call and I felt he was guided/approved to provide what he did.
