Hi All AFF members. I'm booked on a flight from Mel -Perth Thu 26/9. The flight originates in the USA- stopover in Mel before heading back to Perth. Family of 4 flying. I'd like to alter just my booking and stay in Mel until Sunday and then head to Perth. Want to get an idea of what I'd be up for. Is 13 13 13 the right number to call?

I was thinking of just not getting on the flight to Perth and re-booking later but have been reading airlines have been discouraging this and I could be charged as well?

Does anyone have advice before I call?

If you have a USA-MEL-PER-xx_-USA trip missing any middle leg will usually cancel the remaining legs.

If PER is the final destination and you do not board then you'll be stuck in MEL unless you arrange alternate flights beforehand.

The ability to change the flights will be based on the fare type. Read the conditions of your ticket and if changes are allowed determine what flights you would like to take and then call Qantas.

Depending on your status you may be charged a change fee for each passenger.

If you're currently in the USA then maybe try Qantas Webchat.

I am going to guess you may wish to stay in melbourne for the AFL Grand Final?

As it is somewhat likely West Coast Eagles will be playing in that game, that means MEL-PER flights post that game will be chokkas, and you need to take this into account - if you are going to change your booking do it now imo. While QF would put on extra sectors in they do make it in, it will still be a nightmare to get back to PER on that Sunday without confirmed seats.

Seems your booking would have to be split to make this happen, which is possible oviously but will involve change fees and the like - just be aware.

I would NOT do your idea of missing or cancelling that MEL-PER sector and rebooking. That is a very bad idea for many reasons - not the leats of which potentially being availabiliy and cost, let alone cancellation of ticket for no show (as above).

May I say as a foundation member of WCE that I admire your confidence that the Premiers will be participating in the GF again. :) :)

I know!! Used the SMS service and went back and forth over 3 hours but they did solve the problem. Around $1100 extra to stay in Melbourne for a few extra days. I decided against as we're not yet in. I figure I can get something close to that in a week or two.

Thanks for everyone who provided assistance to my question
