Hi I am new to the FF forum.
I am wanting some assistance on how I can best use a stack of points that I have on my AMEX and CBA mastercard to convert for airline travel.
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Welcome to AFF!

You'll get more answers by spending a few hours surfing around, searching and investigating on this forum.

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, however, you will discover other tips and tricks outside of the specifics of what you're seeking by doing the research yourself.

Start with having a look at how many points you need to take the desired airline travel you want with the airline you aspire to travel with.

Work backwards.

Start reading! Like everyone here, there's no short cuts. There is plenty of info though. You'll need to spend the time reading and working out what's best for you.

Welcome aboard Wayne T, as posted you need to research a bit first. After you have read up and have a bit of an idea what you can do and want to do, then you will likely have some specific questions - members with experience can then help you on the way.

Welcome to AFF, Wayne. It's a great community and you'll have no issues getting some good tips. The key is to look at the efficiency of different options - different airline partners will have different redemption rates and some are great value, some not so much. Have a read through the forum sections and you'll get some great tips

Welcome to AFF @Wayne T.

You're the best judge on the best way to use your points. No point someone telling you the best value is to transfer to United MileagePlus and travel to DFW if you have no intention of going there.

where do you want to fly, and/or which airline do you want to fly with.

CBA mastercard

Welcome to AFF ... yes a bit of catching up to do, but as far as CBA is concerned ... I have one (two, actually - personal and business) and its not one of the better ones, but it goes with my other banking. I think there is basically the option to lock in Qantas points up front or convert to Virgin on an ad-hoc basis. I do the latter, as I earn QFF by other means and I have other QFF earning cards. Then, I mostly convert Velocity points to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles. Its a bit inefficient (ie loss in conversion), but good for a stock of KrisFlyer miles to plug holes in other Award itineraries.

As for AMEX; what type of AMEX card do you have? I haven't had an AMEX for a couple of years but when I did I regarded it as a good 'warehouse' for points - they could stay there until I had a need to fly somewhere and then i converted the amount I needed to the airline of choice, and I still think that's a good strategy except until the card company devalues conversion rates, as has been happening a bit recently.

So if you are not on top of devaluations, that's something to understand ASAP, although for some its too late of course.

Also read up here on earning credit card bonuses. '00,000s of points available for a little bit of sensible card churning.
