Anyone been to coughet? I recently snapped up a good reward seats from VA, HKT to MEL. Just planning my trip and I either have an option of staying in BKK from 17th - 22nd, CNX 22nd until 27th, fly to HKT and wait 6 hours until departure, or cut short 1 day in BKK and CNX and spend 2 days in HKT.

What I want to know is what part of HKT to stay in! Patong side, or the coughet side, to be honest the only things i want to see on the Patong side is a cabaret show and the fantasea show. Im just lost! so hoping for some guidance from fellow AFF'ers!

coughet Fantasea and the Simon Cabaret pick up from pretty much every hotel on the island, and doesn't cost a lot extra (if anything). Haven't seen the cabaret but the good lady has, and reckons it's awesome. Fantasea, I have seen and it's great.

Patong/Karon/Kata are the popular spots, and closer to both the Cabaret and Fantasea shows, (which are in Patong) but also the busiest. If travelling in Feb, there are plenty of people around, but believe it or not, it's not the peak peak season. I'd be inclined to stay on the west coast (Patong/Karon/Kata side) - there seems to be a lot more to do there, but I have never stayed on the east (coughet Town) side, though have visited once or twice. coughet town isn't a bad day trip, but I don't think a lot of Westerners generally stay there, maybe a night or two.
Personally I love Karon - enough to keep me entertained, but not flat out like Patong can be YMMV.

Personally I'd recommend staying in coughet longer than BKK, as IMO 5 days is too long in BKK. It gets tiring but that's just my opinion, some people love the place.

Have a good trip.

Thanks for your input Stewiejp! I'm going in September though! Hope weathers not too bad!

Definitely spend a few days in coughet , weather will be okay not much different to normal except for some afternoon showers. It is quite relaxing sitting on the beach having a cold one and watching the sunset. Enjoy !!

Looking forward to the responses as I have the same booking but for march long weekend.

We enjoyed our time in coughet - stayed out at Cape Panwa. A fair distance from the crowd however, absolutely beautiful location.

We stayed at Sri Panwa - really enjoyed our stay......the place is amazing!

Wow, that looks relaxing!! Ok after some good and bad inputs about coughet, I'll go with the ball and check the place out. Taking you guys have been there, how long does it take from the airport to the coughet city area/ patong?

Depending on time of arrival...around 40mins.

You know my thoughts on coughet ;) Whatever you do, do not stay at the Hilton...it was terrible (I posted a brief review in the Hilton section).
The other place we stayed at in Kata was called The Baray Villa (private 2 story villa with private pool part of Sawasdee Village) and it was fantastic...here's a couple of pics

What would one do for say 8 hrs in coughet? Arriving around 10 am and departing 10pm...

Plenty of time to go to Patong, go market shopping, eat, drink etc. Personally I would hire a private driver. For 5 hours with our driver, we went on an elephant ride, went to Tesco for shopping, drove to a couple of look outs, and stopped along the way at whatever we liked. Driver cost us $40

Thanks for that. Is there any actual good tailors in coughet? I know what to except with cheaper tailors as have done all that before but talking quality stuff here.

Agree with mella2007

I can give you the number of a driver I have used for the last 4 years if you like

No prob... Yes there are plenty of tailors but I don't think you'd have time to get anything made

You wouldn't mind passing on the drivers details would you! :)

Hmmm.... Chiang Mai and coughet. Some of the most expensive golf in Thailand. Actually everything is expensive.

In saying that though looks like I will be back in Chiang Mai in April for 3-4 nights and play another 2-3 new golf courses. Shame I did not have a simple, cheap, passtime like sitting by the pool....

I'll leave my recommendation for Khao Lak, north of coughet and Patong, but it depends on what you like doing. We dislike the whole scene of markets and touts and old guys with the prostitutes and prefer diving, relaxing in the resort and the rainforests. The large Khao Sok forest is much closer to Khao Lak and the Le Meridien is a nice balance of price and luxury.

Enjoy!

Agree. For mine the only good thing about coughet is that it has an international airport that allows you to access the region.
