A good number of years ago, the Gold Coast had a Conrad (Jupiters Casino) and it has been announced Jupiters are doing a $345 million transformation including a 6 star luxury hotel tower to be ready before the 2018 Commonwealth games.

Given Conrads involvement with Jupiters since day dot, I'm wondering if there may be a possibility for another Conrad or even a Waldorf Astoria looming for the Gold Coast? As Hilton Surfers Paradise struggles to be a serious hotel, it may be a wise move for the Hilton chain and drop HSP back to a Doubletree.

What other options are out there for a 6 star hotel at Jupiters? Surely the "go it alone" version of Echo Entertainment wouldn't be the wisest choice to market?

Yes, I don't know. Australia is a bit of a funny. I wonder if Hilton would balk because the introduction of the Conrad brand might cannibalise Hilton?

That would make a lot of sense. For mine, having only stayed there once, its the building itself that lets down the brand at that property - and indeed, if they were to do that, then it would be a great idea to pop up a new or newly branded hotel as either Hilton or Conrad ....still wonder where the Conrad would be placed market wise though in Australia.

DT's seem to fill the sub $200 market, Hiltons, judging by recent asking prices seem to be filling the $200-400 market, Conrads would be what? 500 and up? Do you think there is a big enough demand for this tier in Australia? I'm not sure myself. Big brand, large hotels at this price point might be hard to fill ... our market currently seems to be fond of 500-1000/night 'boutique' style.

Echo, the current owners have never had any association with Hilton Hotels.

While I don't mind the Hilton GC, the loud noises from the street and average views (blocked by other buildings etc.) are a bit of a let down. It's a shame the hotel is floors sub-15 (or there abouts?).

Burning HSP to the ground might be the starting point. But seriously, we stayed there for a wedding at the GC and the room was fine (wotif secret deal, so cheap as well. ~$180/n as I recall), but most else about it was truly awful. I'll never stay there again and it is a blight on the Hilton name.

I reckon it would be a "go it alone" job. Wouldn't they think being the only 6 star hotel on the GC be enough without having to trade off a chain name?

I'm not 100% sure, but I thought Versace was marketed as a 6* "go it alone" already.
