Hi All, wondering what the hive minds view on QFF offering a status pause due to CV-19 is. I do most of my travel within Asia and my work has banned travel til unknown time. I think that QFF should offer status pauses like they do when having children. Thoughts?

I do know that a flight we have booked for a holiday to Bali next month is what will be needed for WP status to be maintained so I was thinking the same today.

Interesting concept. But one that only a phone call to Qantas could give any sort of info on. Personally I suspect the effective travel ban to China will remain a long time, so this will clearly have an impact on some for whom this is their main destination and use of Qantas....

In the pre 2004 days when I didn’t requalify for Gold, I received an email asking if there was a reason why I wasn’t able to requalify and if I could explain my future travel pattern then they would consider renewing status. Does that still happen?

IMO, such a status hold however unlikely would disadvantage those who self fund their status. Still opportunities to earn SC out there with 50% offer (off to NOU next week) and hopefully DSC shortly! Obviously current corporate travel restrictions are going to impact mainly those with primarily employer funded status..

Coronavirus will enormously thin out the ranks of elite flyers in QFF (and CX for that matter).

Many corporate travel bans on China (Australia's largest trading partner by an order of magnitude) with the possibility of extending it to HKG and SIN.

It's going to be terrible for Qantas, so expect some creative offerings from Qantas to drum up business. But a status pause won't be one of them because it doesn't generate any extra revenue for them.

I’d like to think, maybe naively, that Qantas would treat each case individually and not have a blanket ‘no‘ approach. Especially this period as there have been few if any and certainly none to us, DSC offers so our flights have been the hard yakka in domestic Y almost every week in the year. And the flight taking my husband over the mark to requal is a flight to Bali. If that gets cancelled then he will be just a few SCs shy. That cancellation will show as a cancelled flight so obviously the data reference is there. Further we have had flights in domestic last week needing to be cancelled because of changes in priority to clients over coronavirus business impact, and at last minute so paying cancellation penalties and those haven’t helped either.

if travel restrictions to asia continue beyond end March (or extend to other countries😳😳😳), expect QF will have bigger issues to worry about than customer loyalty....

Meanwhile, all those passengers who don't travel to Asia or don't travel internationally, get penalised because some do? Don't think so.

Suggest it will be a blanket NO! publicly (and potentially extremely subtle don't say anything nod nod wink wink to a very very few very valuable/sensitive customers who may get a soft landing)

Edit: and as @amaroo said above, maybe some double status promotions so you can fly somewhere else to get your credits.

Actually 95% of our travel is domestic. And our year ends in April. DSC of no value to us now. So not as simple as you suggest as a remedy.
