Hi all,

Just finished UNI and have had part time job, i've had CBA Awards card for years with poor earning ratio. My plan was to move to ANZ basic frequent flyer card once I had been working full time as a graduate - reason being ANZ FF obviously have a better earning rate than CBA and offer bonus points offers all the time.

Anyway, just today CBA offered me the Gold Awards card with a better earning ratio and benefits. Even though my income for next year is below the minimum income ($50000) required if applying from scratch. I guess through loyalty and good payment history CBA offered me this card.

My question is once i was working full time and then went to ANZ, would they match the gold equivalent (platinum FF card) as i had with CBA in exchange for my business?

Cheers

I'd be pretty surprised if they did. Gaining credit from a bank is a bit different from status matches at airlines and whatnot. Worth a try though I guess.

What are you trying to achieve rewards/points wise? If you are after QFF's then its pretty hard to get past the EDR CC at 1:1 which I'm guessing is likely to be a better earner than the CBA or ANZ Mastercards.

If you don't want QFF's and would prefer Velocity or others then one of the Amex cards is likely to be a better earner.

I've just dumped my Gold CBA card after 10 years for an Amex and have earned in a month what it took years to earn in the CBA program insofar as airline rewards goes.

If you can get Gold CBA awards card and opt in QF FFP program, then there is no difference earning ratio between ANZ & CBA. If you would like to get more options for your rewards, then CBA might be better choice for you.

Cheers for that!!!

To answer first question, looking for QFF points and definitely seems the go is to get an AX once I've qualified.

Thanks wxxnxs, initially i thought the gold was $1:.75 Point but seems it is 1:1 as you say. Might stick around for a bit and change if there are big sign up bonus offers with other cards or CBA lower the ratio.

Cheers again!

The CBA Gold is 1:1 QFF points only when you opt in to the direct sweep QFF program as stated above and only when you use the partner Amex card. If you use the Visa/MC then its $1:0.5 points ... a poor performer. There really are better cards out there.

The Woolies EDR CC is free at the moment with 5000 bonus points, is a Mastercard and earns at 1:1 (almost 2:1 in fact if you also use the EDR rewards only card). There are a myriad Amex cards that will earn at least $1:1 point for velocity and usually allows transfer to other airlines as well, though not QFF unless you are getting a high end Amex card.

As always, keep the cards you have until you get better performing replacements.
